Pre holiday paralysis

Anyone else struggle to motivate just when they need to rally?

We're going camping tomorrow and getting everything packed this evening would have made things so much easier but man I am flagging. Now for most people I get that is normal as it's late but I stay up happily until 1am most nights and I slept late this morning as I wasn't working until midday. I just cannot will myself to get on and do what is needed.

I have already done my list and done the 'mental load' so I know what needs to be done. Tesco have been, bolognese currently cooking for tomorrow, finished work at 8pm and all the washing is done. I just need to locate all the camping stuff and fill the damn boxes.

Lighthearted thread. I know what my weakness is really....I know I can do it in the morning and I am really the queen of procrastination. On a positive note, 2 weeks off work! Whoop whoop

Maybe I should have a glass of wine and think about it a bit more. Grin

Haha OP I am so similar! Absolutely hate packing and always leave it to the last minute although it's then really stressful and exhausting. DH has been packing this evening and I just can't face it, I'll do it all tomorrow! (In my defence he's working tomorrow and I'm not.)

gratefulcustomer · 14/08/2024 22:37

There's nothing worse than a keen partner to make you feel guilty. I just want to curl up in the sofa around the boxes and ignore it! I'll regret all my decisions tomorrow

I feel we may have been twins separated at birth Grin

gratefulcustomer · 14/08/2024 22:39

I love a procrastination twin. Though we would never get anything done

The list, Bolognese, tesco order and washing all sound quite far from procrastination to me, well done on all that I say.

gratefulcustomer · 14/08/2024 22:42

I still need to

Pack my suitcase
Pack toiletries
Pack food (we're camping'
Find all the plastic plates
Pick up the trailer from my parents
Shower
Change the bedding
Bring in the camping fridge from the bar
Pack the van
Round up everyone else to make sure they have done what they should

I can totally do all that with DP by 1pm tomorrow

Good point. I also worked for 8 hours. It's not enough though. I always end up rushing.

When you put it like that.....now you've stressed me out 😂

gratefulcustomer · 14/08/2024 22:46

Haha! I'm stressing myself out as well! Think I will sit and ponder the problems for a bit. I know that will help 😂

This is why I married my DH. I do the booking, the planning, the lists, the buying but when it comes down to actually getting everything in the car, he’s the reliable one. I get overwhelmed at the last minute.

gratefulcustomer · 14/08/2024 22:50

I can't complain because we have a similar arrangement. He will pack the van and do the 'heavy lifting' but still I wanted to be ready to have over to him. It doesn't help that he is self employed and always ends up working a long shift before we go as he has to catch up on things. He isn't even home from work yet

Yup yup yup.
I'm a lone parent taking 2 DCs driving and camping through France and Spain on Sunday. The lists....Jesus, the lists. And the sub lists. Somehow I still have to pick up a gas bottle, clean the absolute midden of a van out, sew a patch on the awning...
I keep telling myself the to do list isn't as bad as it looks. It really bloody is 😬

Iasonnas · 14/08/2024 22:52

It's gonna piss it down tomorrow. Delay camping until Friday and you've got a whole day to sort it

ThatTimeIKnewFamousPeople · 14/08/2024 22:52

You are not the problem. The problem is camping 😬

gratefulcustomer · 14/08/2024 23:07

I would totally delay camping but we are going to a festival first. Can't delay that!

We're getting a train from London to Barcelona on Friday, with a 5am wake up, and I definitely have paralysis right now, helped by wine...

WindsurfingDreams · 14/08/2024 23:09

I do this every time 😁

However, I think DH way where he seems to spend about 3 weeks "packing" for a holiday is way more annoying!

Amazing! I wish you were my mum! Or my kids mum!! How old are your DC - will they be able to help at all? Have a fantastic time Smile

This also sounds brilliant- how easy was it to organise? I looked a couple of years ago but it looked quite complicated for some reason.

AnotherEmma · 15/08/2024 08:01

Good luck OP and crackofdoom!

We are leaving tomorrow morning, I have to drop off DC2 at nursery and do all the last minute jobs and packing with an overexcited DC1 in tow (he woke me up at 6.30 this morning asking if he could start packing 😵‍💫)

JudyJudeplusOne · 15/08/2024 09:20

@Festivfrenzy My DH organises it all (fear of flying) and we love it as the French TGV trains are luxurious. We have an hours train to St Pancras, then a two hour Eurostar to Paris, then change onto the TGV to Barcelona, which takes six hours (but is comfortable enough to sleep if you like). We go first class as there isn’t much price difference compared to how much nicer it is, and if you book months in advance you save ££££ too.

Thanks! My oldest is 14, so very capable and helpful if he's in the mood 🙄

We are currently having a shakedown camp on Bodmin Moor, and I'm lying in bed while the DC are getting themselves breakfast. I was going to say they've managed not to argue, but they've just started 🙄.
