What's all the sweetcorn for?

Yesterday, I saw 2 sweet young boys buy 5 bags of frozen sweetcorn and nothing else.

Black kids (in case it something cultural/a traditional recipe) about 9 or 10, who presumably had been sent on an errand, as they paid by credit card.

What did they want 5 bags of sweetcorn for?

When I see something like that, it's usually a small business owner and their catering supplier has run out of something or forgotten to provide (or the small business owner forgot to order it) so they have to stock up in the local supermarket and need to buy in bulk.

I think @sangriaandsunshineplease has the most reasonable explanation. I do wonder when I see someone buy like a whole cart of milk and nothing else what they could possibly be using it for!

Fishing maybe? My ds goes fishing and before he bought all the full gear he’d used sweetcorn as bait.

Could well be this. I used to work in a sandwich shop and most things would come in bulk from a supplier but occasionally we'd run low on lettuce or similar and one of us would go to the supermarket and buy 10 lettuces and nothing else.

So possibly these kids' parents ran a restaurant or other food business and their usual sweet corn supply had run out and they'd been sent out get more.

Aw, I was hoping to learn of some amazing sweetcorn based Caribbean delicacy.

I imagine it’s a business - like in Lidl when people have trolleys full of lettuce or cabbage and nothing else.

Was it on the cob? If so, big family BBQ.

gladiolionthesideboard · 14/08/2024 11:10

Sweetcorn fritters?

Definitely this.
