I have a work email and a very old personal email. I want to set up a new personal email address but which provider should I use. One that works on an iPhone.
Is there any way to set up email forwarding from the old one to the new.

Most email providers will work with an iPhone

You will need to know the access details, account name / ID, password, server and then configure it in either the Apple Mail settings or potentially a specific app for that account provider

I use the Mail app as my default, which can access the handful of personal email addresses I have. My primary is in yahoo, so I also have the yahoo mail app
I can view / send yahoo emails from either the mail app or the yahoo mail app

Regarding email forwarding it should be a yes, but you may need to set it up in different ways.
To forward you would need to set up forwarding rules as per the applicable settings for your existing service.
However you might not need to - if you just want to ensure they you still receive from your old address then you could configure that in the iPhone mail app

In the iPhone you can go to - settings, mail, add account then follow the steps

Most people tend to use gmail or outlook. Im sorry not sure exactly the ‘benefits’ of either. It’s an email address, it receives emails.

The best remains subjective and if you search ‘best email’ then Gmail does feature high or top

…. and having just checked, I have 3 active Google accounts - I don’t use them for the email addresses, I’ve a main one that my YouTube is associated with, one similar to my work email address that I use for Google facilities such as YouTube, and a couple of others that I’ve created and kept or created then discarded particular purposes (I was doing a course which used part of the Google API for some of the coursework but covers a limited time on the free without a chargeable subscription - Going back at a later date was doable by just creating a temporary new one for free access again

There are a few extra services in Google as well as email, cloud storage on Google drive, Documents etc if you ever get geeky then there is the Google API and some sites let you use Google as your login rather than creating a login for the site itself
