She Shed!

A customer bought some cute fairy lights today & when I admired them, she told me they were for her “ She Shed”. She was going to show me a picture but there was a bit of a queue. Her friend said I was honoured because she wasn’t allowed to see it until it was finished. Made me think. We have a summerhouse which was bought for DD15 as a potential den a few years ago & she’s never used it. I want to paint the exterior yellow, sweep out the rabbitpoo, clean the chair & cushion, buy a small table etc. The cushion is yellow & blue so I’ll continue the theme with a pvc tablecover, a rug & bunting. Not keen on blue lights but we have loads of lovely ones at work. My She Shed! Anyone else have their own little escape?

I have a potting shed. But it is full of gardening stuff, tools and compost etc, so probably not the image you are looking for.

Maybe I should sweep out the spiders and put up some curtains.😂

The female version of a man cave, sorry to bring them critters into it regarding this wonderful idea!

Everyone should have one, or at least a big cupboard to lock themselves away in, preferably with a kettle, a fridge, wine cooler, snack box and earplugs.

RabbitsRock · 13/08/2024 18:32

Anyone?

I have a study of my own (DH has one also - his is full of model cars) - poster of Jude Law on the ceiling, various Dr. Who, Supernatural (Jensen Ackles 💘) etc. tat around the walls, bookcases full of computer games many of which are unlikely to work any more being DOS or Windows 95... Huge desk cluttered with a couple of PCs. All very untidy (DH's is extremely organised, LOL).
Heh... the Jude Law poster is v. outing...

CucumberBagel · 13/08/2024 18:43

I want one once I can afford it 😅

Edited

Reminds me of the utility room in my home growing up. My mum covered the walls and cupboard doors with pictures of hunks ripped out of the Radio Times. Colin Firth as Mr Darcy had pride (& prejudice 😆) of place. Jude Law was also there, with Brad Pitt and Hugh Jackman.

I have a summerhouse that everyone else just leaves alone. I have an old iPad in there (Wi-Fi reaches it), lots of (dusty) exercise equipment, two comfy chairs, all MY camping stuff (I am very territorial about camping, I am The Camping Guru) a lovely table and a fancy lamp.
It's great, I go out there and browse the net for more camping things, or listen to my 80s music whilst ignoring the treadmill. I can brew up on my camping stove and I keep a stash of those fancy sachet coffees out there.

LightDrizzle · 13/08/2024 19:22

I’m going to get a studio built for painting. A real luxury as I’m only a hobbyist but it will make such a difference not having to spend ages getting stuff out and putting it away.

EveSix · 13/08/2024 19:23

I want one!

FatmanandKnobbin · 13/08/2024 19:26

I have one and it's full of every kind of art and craft supply you can think of, I have about 50 unfinished projects laid about, I even bought a label maker to label all my stuff. It's my favourite place to be.

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 13/08/2024 19:27

Sounds lovely! Isn't it cold though? I'd love a crafting room for knitting, crochet and spinning, but it would need to be heated.

reluctantbrit · 13/08/2024 19:28

We just converted the box room to a she-den/smut library for me. DH had the room for 12 years for his model train and when I said I look for a room for myself but an extension would cost several arms and legs, he decided to relocate to the garage and I get the box room.

I think I have too look at a wine fridge to finish the set up now.

I have a heater in mine, it's really cosy, thinking of upgrading to a wood burner at some point.

I can't have a shed as we live in a flat but I do have a Lego room.
As well as all the Lego there is a Lazyboy recliner for me to relax and read and a tv for if I want to escape all the football on the main TV.

Wahine24 · 13/08/2024 21:42

I hate the phrase "she shed" it makes me think of people who have "live love laugh" "dance like no one's watching" "bath" or massive family canvases .
A shed or summerhouse space would be lovely but if I had to refer to as my "she shed" I would pass !

EveSix · 14/08/2024 09:15

Wahine, I expect all sorts of women might enjoy a place such as the OP is describing, and call it whatever they please. The concept is still very appealing, dontcha think?

AlisonDonut · 14/08/2024 09:24

I have a potting shed/summerhouse/whatever you want to call it.

I have a desk in there, a bookcase, a turntable and CD player, all my CDs and a fair amount of my favourite records. I have seeds, tools, and the power tools are stashed in the messanine area ready to come out in the autumn. I have loads of craft stuff in there, to do netmaking and I recently bought a potters wheel so much stuff is being moved around to make one half pottery only. I have a internet mesh station in there so that the whole garden gets the internet. I have a set of manual tools, sharpening stones, and I stash the clean cat bedding in there for when they need it in the winter. I am currently looking for lino to go under the potters wheel in there.

I have a fabric sail to keep it from getting too wet on the decking outside, which gets into the shed itself. The cats shelter under it when it rains. And I have a huge umbrella thingy which I use to give me some shade in the summer afternoons as it gets so hot in there when we have mega hot days. It was so hot in there on Sunday my clay dried out before I could even trim it.

It is at the top of the garden looking down on the house, which is where my OH sits, on the cool terrace in the heat of the summer. And I always have an assortment of cats on the decking either sheltering or sunbathing or getting a drink of water from their food station.

I have a table outside for putting all the flowerpots on. And sometimes a cat or two climbs up onto the roof, and leaps onto the fabric sail like a trampoline and then jumps down onto the pergola and frigtens the life out of me, and sometimes lands on the water butt with a thud.

It is my happy place. I'm off up there in 5 mins. I'll be back down in around 2 hours to start making lunch.

DH calls my room the "Smut library". So what, I love reading romance novels.
