Programmes you associate with newborn stage

I was reminiscing with my husband recently. I have twin girls, when we first brought them home (they were prem) we were up to very 3 hours.

The tv programmes I remember so well are

game of thrones - final season. We always watched the episode at 2am when we were up for a feed 😂

during the day I watched greys anatomy

also when they had their first injections (we were extremely nervous about this for reasons that I won’t go into). We stayed up all night to keep an eye on them and to top them up with calpol. We watched the entire season of Chernobyl on sky in one night 😂

what programmes do you associate with the newborn stage?

Nip Tuck and Big Brother

MyOtherCarisAVauxhallZafira · 12/08/2024 21:47

Channel five shit Christmas films, DS was born almost six weeks early in late November , in my defence there really wasn't much on!

weebarra · 12/08/2024 21:48

Bake Off - I had two mid-August babies and remember sitting with them watching it.

Midsomer murders, I think I watch all of them. And endless repeats of Taskmaster.

Fullofthejoysofspring · 12/08/2024 21:49

House MD!

dancingqueen345 · 12/08/2024 21:50

Happy Valley and Strike, binged both whilst cocooning with my newborn and my mum during the winter.

Also Criminal Minds, that was my go to middle of the night breastfeeding watch 😂

Singleandproud · 12/08/2024 21:51

TrueBlood, I read the books whilst breastfeeding and then the TV series which had the best theme tune ever.

HappierTimesAhead · 12/08/2024 21:51

The Crown, I established breastfeeding while watching every episode on the sofa.

Babyboomtastic · 12/08/2024 21:51

The only one is Aquaman, which we watched the evening we came home with my second. I ate a takeaway curry and then drifted in and out of sleep whilst marvelling at the OTT buffness.

Other than that, I didn't really watch much TV.

QforCucumber · 12/08/2024 21:53

24 hours in a&e 😂 dh would come in From work every day asking what new injury and bone name weeks old ds2 had learned about, I was obsessed - and it was lockdown!

PrincessesRUs · 12/08/2024 21:53

Downton Abbey - watched in all through with each baby. Say Yes to the Dress with my first!

Singleandproud · 12/08/2024 21:53

@dancingqueen345 You're tougher than me. I had to stop watching Dexter after I had DD as I couldn't hack it. Criminal Minds would definitely be too much.

bakewellbride · 12/08/2024 21:53

I binged watched call the midwife while breastfeeding my first baby.

No time for that with my youngest, just had to breastfeed and get on with life 🤣

BendingSpoons · 12/08/2024 21:55

Alphablocks! DC1 was almost 3 when DC2 was born. When DC2 was watching it later on, it took me right back to being very pregnant and then feeding a newborn.

Pipperleen · 12/08/2024 22:00

One born every minute 😂 I was obsessed and watched episode after episode in bed with little DD in those first few weeks.
Also did a Bridgerton rewatch - stunning.

Leafyleaferson · 12/08/2024 22:00

DS1- The 2012 olympics and a series called Touch.

DS2- I can't remember having time to watch TV!

DS3- Stranger Things

Dr13Hadley · 12/08/2024 22:01

I binge watched breaking bad on mat leave with DS1
Didn't get chance to watch anything on mat leave with DS2 as DS1 was a 2yo!

GreenSedan · 12/08/2024 22:03

Homes Under The Hammer and Deal or No Deal 😁

peachgreen · 12/08/2024 22:04

What a lovely post. For me it’s Detectorists. Can’t even think about the theme tune without crying. “Will you search through the loamy earth for me? / Climb through the briar and bramble / I'll be your treasure / I’m waiting for you” etc etc. I don’t think I’ll ever be able to watch it again!

thecatsthecats · 12/08/2024 22:05

We watched naff 00s comedy films Netflix.

Scared102 · 12/08/2024 22:11

Selling sunset.

My eldest is so old there was only normal tv not cable etc (well there was but I was too skint to afford it) so I used to read when up BFing or occasionally watch the open university programmes that were on in the middle of the night.
Then second baby I just fed half asleep in bed to try to maximise the sleep I got as I had a toddler.
When third came along I had a laptop at least, and it had a dvd player in it so I watched ER dvds and got through most of the series.
Wheb my youngest was born I had to maximise sleep when DH came home from work so I’d take baby to bed at 7 and watch emmerdale whilst feeding him, then try to get some sleep whilst DH saw to the others and put them to bed. Some nights I’d have had 3/4 blissful hours before the night feed awakenings!! So emmerdale always reminds me of that time.

OctoblocksAssemble · 12/08/2024 22:11

Dd1 napping: third rock from the sun
Dd1 screaming: jem and the holograms

Dd2 was not a screamer by day, but at night she required constant physical contact and frequent feeds. I watched the last season of big bang theory, and I vividly remember bouncing her in the sling standing in our tiny bathroom, watching Shazam on my kindle, which was proped by the sink. H was sleeping in the living room and dd1 was sleeping in the only bedroom. Thankfully our long delayed move finally went through shortly after that.

mambojambodothetango · 12/08/2024 22:13

Mad Men - the whole thing on DVD

Iwasjustasking · 12/08/2024 22:13

Britains got talent, the live shows, with both my dc’s who were born in similar months. Dd1 one born every minute and dd2 Dallas Texas cheerleaders! This thread has taken me right back!
