Neighbour issues. What do I do?

My partner has had a big bust up with neighbour as he keeps banging relentlessly on our wall saying we are noisy. Tbf it's usually in the day when I am alone with a newborn and toddler..

I would understand if it was the kids noise. (I do my best to minimise this, I even sleep on the sofa in the living room to avoid disturbance ect)

But it's not..its me dropping a coke can. (Bang bang) folding a highchair ect.

Apparently when my partner complained he was quiet as he thought he was targeting me or the toddler and said he was banging at the toddler :/. How a toddler would understand that I have no idea.

But what do I do? I can't stop sitting on the sofa (he said it makes a noise when we sit down), feeding the kids in a chair..he says it's awful banging from me :/

I've been in tears 😢 I am so stressed anyway and it's another thing..and I am so quiet as a person, the kids are too. (I'm pretty sure if it was them screaming he would have no issue saying so) I'm now so paranoid to just live in my home.

I wouldn't do anything. I'd live my life normally.

You are entitled to live in your house with reasonable day to day living noises . Once it is not at 11pm or 5am he can shove it . Does he work nights or something not that it is your problem anyway. Nice how he targets you on your own . Now that your partner has had a word he will hopefully back off.

He complains about you sitting on the sofa? Surely you realise he is nuts? Honestly you need to ignore his nonsense and let your children and yourself lead a normal everyday existence- if it gets too stressful then you need to take appropriate action with the landlord/ha/council.

No 9-4 mon-fri :(

I guess I'm having hard time with a lot of things and I feel I am constantly being a "problem." So I guess it's the straw that broke the camels back tonight. Especially when I am naturally really quiet 😅 I even prefer music on headphones (better sound imo) so I am having my "omg really?! Now what!! Ffs" moment.

He is quite a big aggressive chap..so I'm feeling intimidated and want to move. But I'm kinda learning that wherever I end up, I could end up with another individual next door..

And given the noise issue..there is absolutely nothing I can do about it, except perhaps get us all ear defenders for the relentless wall punching :(

Don't do anything. They are evil people and try to intimidate you. Just live life and wish them good ( I would say pray for their heart but you must be atheist), even so , wish them good. Do not hate them. There is nothing worse that giving foothold to evil - it will only grow. Patience and amicable silence on the stairs will be just that. No one says anything, no one will say anything. If they do - ignore. Ignore, ignore, repeat

It’s not normal to hear someone sit on the sofa, what’s the insulation like?

Ignore OP. I have a neighbour like this, he’s a pathetic old misogynist with nothing better to do but pick fault at everything. Don’t answer the door, don’t engage, carry on living your life. If he doesn’t want reasonable noise from neighbours he needs to soundproof or move somewhere remote. maybe you could record the bangs and report him for harrassment.

It must be rubbish, I can hear them all the time. So I'm wondering how the other neighbour has got away with it 🤔..I think if they were getting it too I would feel less targeted. Although he has had a pop at quite a few people around here, with parking ect

Edited

I do have an SD card camera that records all noise..I was wondering about asking to give date and time of the awful noise issue and show them that we are doing literally nothing..

You’re doing nothing wrong at all - he sounds like a complete arsehole. Tell him he’s free to report you to Environmental Health - otherwise he’s to stop harassing you immediately. In the meantime keep a record of every time he does anything and consider reporting him the police if it continues.

NotThisShitAgain121 · 11/06/2025 17:23

Fuck him if he does not like it tell him to get his walls sound proofed.

JohnTheRevelator · 11/06/2025 18:17

NotThisShitAgain121 · 30/01/2026 18:40

You need to report him to the police. This is total harassment.

ThePrecisionsifthisislove · 30/01/2026 20:54

He does it during the day when you're on on your own ,that speaks volumes about his character and out and out bully.
You'll never placate this idiot.
Perhaps a call to the police to at least get it logged so a picture of the situation can be built.
