Would you eat this meat?

Bought a pack of mince meat on Thursday night, put straight in the fridge at home. Intended to cook on Saturday but got side tracked. So it's being cooked now. Use date is today.

Would you eat it? I think it smelled fine, just... meaty!

Why wouldn't you if the use by date is today? Even if it was yesterday or Saturday I'd still eat it if it looked and smelled ok!

I'm just a bit wary when it's been sat in the fridge for a few days. I usually cook meat (or freeze it) soon after purchase

Totally I would eat it. Well cooked, no issues.

Absolutely. Smell definitely trumps dates.

Where do you think it would have been if it had still been in the shop though?

NeverDropYourMooncup · 12/08/2024 15:20

It'll be fine as long as it doesn't smell bad - and you'll know without a doubt when you open it if it's actually gone off, as it doesn't smell of meat, it smells awful.

OtterOnAPlane · 12/08/2024 15:22

Erm… the use by date is the date that it’s absolutely fine to use it by. And it smells fine.

I really don’t see a problem!!

Peonies12 · 12/08/2024 15:23

I’d use it for a few more days if it smelt fine, you know those dates are a massive scam to make use waste and buy more. I wish they’d get rid of them and people use their nose and eyes.

This is what I said to my Mum 😂
