Virgin media digging up drive.

Recently took out a new contract with Virgin media for broadband. Came him to find they have dug up the car park in front of my house to ? Lay cables. I'm a bit surprised by this as I already have fibre optic broadband with another company. Had I known they'd dig up the car park, I'd have stuck with my current provider. Anyone else had this. I'm not massively happy with the way it's been left. Although it has been tarmaced

How did you think you’d get cable without cable?

parietal · 12/08/2024 14:14

Virgin media have a completely different cable system from all other broadband providers so they do a lot more digging up the roads.

now it is done, you better stick with them or it will get dug again.

They've given me a good deal though. So will have to stick with them.

Do you mean you thought you had a phone line or cable?

Virgin is a cable company.

Rummly · 12/08/2024 14:26

A relative tells me that Virgin broadband is spectacularly fast.

We’re nowhere near a cable hub though. 😢

Nitgel · 12/08/2024 14:26

We had same at our house but they tidied it all away

Ah right until your contract ends and then they take the pee. We actually sign up for an alternative provider now - don't bother with the retentions team nonsense and wait for them to ring and encourage us to stay by price matching whatever we sign up for.

@Rummly I am with EE and thought I had cable to cabinet broad band.

@Andthereitis my dad had issues when he cancelled his, when they moved house. But I think that was his fault as he told them he was cancelling because they were moving. But as they were moving in with my sister while their new house was being built, it caused too much confusion! He should have just cancelled with out mentioning the move.

I think that’s probably fibre-to-cabinet. After the cabinet your connection is by standard phone line.

Hayliebells · 12/08/2024 14:38

EE aren't cable, only Virgin is cable in the UK now. They should have told you they were going to dig up your drive though!
