Can I have a moan?!

Just back from a ten day UK holiday. A couple of days in severe pain, a couple of days where slept 18+ hours (long covid, so this part was expected), a couple of days in hospital and at doctor for three others, lots of time on hold for medical reasons. I have to have a surgical wound unpacked and repacked every two days and have been told no GP appointments for that at my surgery. I'm going to have to wait for around three hours a time at walk-in clinic, with three kids. Often I only have about 4-5 very semi-functional hours a day due to long covid. Having severe mama guilt.

Another vote for contacting PALS, I've got ME, and they helped advocate for my care in similar circumstances.

It's opaque what services and when the walk-in offer. Was told at 5pm on first day by clinician that I'm lucky someone was there to see me as dressings done earlier in day (walk-in still open much later). Going later in day/eve this holiday would have helped with children. I asked when is best time and clinician just said it depends what times I'm here. How am I meant to know that? As I'm sitting here now, it's not that busy. Am I waiting pointlessly until someone's shift starts? Could I have done something with my kids in the sunshine instead? Just letting off steam!!! How many people just would not have enough leave left to cover the hours and hours in the sit and wait service?

Update: saw a lovely, pragmatic nurse and asked how much longer before I can do st home. She has agreed this can be managed at home now. Yay!

I asked what dressings I needed to ask GP for (had previously been told by another clinician to call GP to get a prescription, but when I asked what to ask for so that I could do both things in one call, would not tell me what to ask for). This nurse just said 'I've seen your name a lot on the lists lately. Some people create drama - I can just give you some dressings.' Pragmatic, understanding, kind and 'computer says yes, rather than no'. The easiness without jumping through more hoops, calls and contradictions made me a bit emotional!

can you ask for the district nurse to come to you and do it?

I came on to say this …
