Hobby Horse Championships

I absolutely loved this thing in the Times about the US Hobby Horse Championships in Michigan. Am hoping that the share token works.

I have a daughter who loves her hobby horse and builds jumps in the back garden. I bet she would love to go to this.

It looks like quite a weird thing to do but the girls in the photos all look really fit and healthy. I think the comment that there will be a resurgence in hurdles in a few years’ time may be spot on.

This is so wholesome and makes my heart happy.

I loved the bit at the end about the 18 year old Finnish girl doing a victory lap with the younger girls following her. It made me a bit teary.

I can see how this would be attractive to younger kids and it being a fun way to keep fit, but I'm so confused as to why teenagers and adults would want to do this.

I would be surprised if many adults could make the jumps. The article said that a girl jumped a 4 ft 4 jump - I don’t think I would ever have been able to do that, even without a hobby horse.
