Late teens on holiday

I have been hosting (in Europe) my grandchildren for years and they have been bringing a school friend too. All successful until this year. What has happened to other people’s teens that they are so unbearably entitled and entirely arrogant? Even my own grandchildren were horrified and tried to set them right. They said they were only used to 4/5* all inclusive hotels and this was not what they were expecting. They survived 10days and then were advised to leave early. I am considerably out of pocket and as a pensioner not really able towithstand both the financial hit and the downright rude behaviour. I am overreacting?

sounds like a horrible experience. Are you grandchildren still with you?

You need to separate out the financial hit and rude behaviour. Either you can afford it or you can’t, and you can choose how much you ask people to contribute to staying accordingly.

The behaviour is another matter though and has nothing to do with your age or financial position. It just sounds downright rude and a real shame for everyone involved. Are these people who’ve been before or new friends? If it’s new friends then your DGC have hopefully had an early escape.

Where in Europe are you and what sort of place is it, ie do you have things to keep them busy? A shame as they sound very lucky to have you.

How was it when they left and who “advised them” to leave early? Are they still on speaking terms with your DGC?

If you can't afford to host then you shouldn't be doing so, regardless of their behaviour.

How much did you bend to the entitled behaviour? They say we’re only interested in 5* all inclusive you say, sorry this is my home, it’s sausage and chips for tea tonight, like it or lump it.
