Would you do this trip?

HATE hot weather. Prefer it cold. With dark nights. I was probably a bat in another life. Anyway...

Boxing Day, fly to Amsterdam for two days. Then interrail to Berlin for three more days. Then interrail down to Salzburg for four days, then fly home. I've looked at times and prices etc. Should be able to do the whole thing on around £800 not including spending money. I'll be taking just a backpack.

Am I missing anything?

The weather won't be warm on Boxing Day Confused and yes I would do it, I love 2 out of 3 and quite like the other one.

Sounds fab! What is worrying you about it?

Proudbitch · 11/08/2024 23:48

Oo Berlin was lovely and cold when I went around the same time last year. Be prepared for fireworks being thrown in your face potentially if you are there on NYE..

It seems fine; the distances are manageable and the temps and daylight hours should be to your liking. I would personally want a little more time in Berlin, maybe less in Salzburg - but I also appreciate the desire to get out of Berlin/Germany before New Year's Eve night and spend it somewhere mellower. One perk of being in Berlin in late December is that - unlike most of W Europe including most of Germany - the Christmas Markets mostly reopen on the 26th or 27th and run through the 30th/31st. Some are kitschy and commercial, p in the city centre - but overall the atmosphere is nice and some of the local ones are unique and a lot of fun. es

Belindabelle · 12/08/2024 00:04

Hell Yes. Do you want a guest?

persisted · 12/08/2024 00:25

Sounds amazing. There will be plenty of people around to ask if you need to in the station so don't let that worry you.

You don't say where you will be staying. I don't mind train travel but I don't rough it. Three nice cities.

FuckingFreezing · 12/08/2024 07:34

Three star hotels, Ramadas etc. Definitely not hostels or shared bathrooms. I'm 40 years old!

We are mid 50s and stayed in a lovely hostel in the Douro valley last week, our own bedroom but shared bathroom as no en suite's left.
Don't knock it until you try it, this one felt so homely and DH had a nice evening port drinking session with some of the other residents.
