Hand infected (Warning, gross photos)

I do have another thread on this but I've been on antibiotics since Thursday and it's just getting worse.

It's still hot and new puss filled blisters are appearing.

Shouldn't the antibiotics have kicked in by now?

It's so sore and embarrassing

A&E.

Seriously.

PIPpityDoodah · 11/08/2024 12:41

Sorry meant to put the blurry cover on all 3.

I don't know what it is BTW. I thought it started out as am allergic reaction to cleaning products but Doctor just looked at photos online and sent cream and antibiotics to chemist, didn't say what he thought it was.

This is how it started out.

Any chance you've been in contact with giant hogweed?

Please, please go to A&E today OP, even if it’s a long wait. That needs seeing today especially if it’s hot and new blisters are appearing. You poor thing!

No.

The day the small spots appeared I cleaned out my washing machine drawer with lots of layers of fabric softener and I used bleach without gloves.

So I thought it was that.

Urgent care or A and E. Take the photos/phone with you so they can see how it started. That needs to be seen asap.

alldayeveryday247 · 11/08/2024 12:42

Did the doctor just see that earlier picture you shared, before it looked so bad? Or have they seen the pictures in your first post on this thread?

tuttuttutt · 11/08/2024 12:43

Oh wow that looks bad. A lot of mn is a bit overzealous with a&e but this is definitely something you need to get checked out

PIPpityDoodah · 11/08/2024 12:43

I'm not going to A&E, I'll get in first thing with the GP in the morning.
I feel absolutely fine other than it being sore when I move my hand.

This is what the Dr saw.

I wouldn't wait

BobbyBiscuits · 11/08/2024 12:46

Gosh, your poor thing. Sending a hand hold to the other hand. It seems the cream etc hasn't helped, it looks very sore. Can you go to a minor injuries unit? If not then I guess you need to call the GP again for an urgent appointment.
If you go to A&E you may well have to wait for 12 hours plus.

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 11/08/2024 12:46

If you’re not going to A&E then give it a bloody good wash and put a dressing on it.

Do you have any Savlon or Germoline?

PIPpityDoodah · 11/08/2024 12:47

I can't go and sit in a waiting room for 8 hours.
I'll send photos to GP in the morning and request an in person appointment

I've been given cream for it and I've been keeping it clean and dressing it when outside the house

I get similar on my hands in the winter but never as bad as your last photo. Yours looks infected.

I use hydrocortisone cream and a good moisturiser and it gradually clears.

Definitely get it checked tomorrow as it looks very painful and is not getting better.

Pigeonqueen · 11/08/2024 12:48

That is really awful and looks on the verge of becoming septic. You need to go to a and e.

AddictedToBooks · 11/08/2024 12:49

You poor thing, that looks so sore and really alarming. I know you don't want to go to A&E but I think if you present at your GP with that in the morning and with it being hot and new blisters (has it spread more since the most recent photos?), they're likely to send you to A&E anyway.
You have my sympathy as I hate attending A&E but in this case, with you not knowing what it is, the speed at which it's spreading and the fact that the antibiotics don't seem to be working, I would go - the last thing you want is sepsis.
At the very least, it needs cleaning, assessing properly and dressing to protect you x

BeMintBee · 11/08/2024 12:50

Madness to not go to a&e IMO but at the very least I would go to Boots pharmacy and ask for advice. Hopefully they can give a more knowledgeable opinion on waiting for GP or going to a&e.

MissMoneyFairy · 11/08/2024 12:50

That looks sore, if it's something like infected pemphigus you need treatment ASAP. I wouldn't put any creams or lotion on it that's not prescribed but would keep it covered at all times.

GoFaster83 · 11/08/2024 12:50

Op you sound like me. I wouldn't go to a & e either. But I'm an idiot. Please go get that looked at. You don't know what infection could be spreading and 24 hours may make a difference. Please just go.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 11/08/2024 12:51

PIPpityDoodah · 11/08/2024 12:45

This is what the Dr saw.

And it's much worse. It needs to be seen especially if it's hot.

Cornettoninja · 11/08/2024 12:51

Would you try 111? I don’t know if it varies by area but we don’t have an urgent care so 111 will arrange an out of hours dr appointment.

I agree that it really needs looking at asap and if A&E isn’t an option you need to get in front of a doctor today another way.

Gettingbysomehow · 11/08/2024 12:54

That looks like active psoriasis or something like that, it doesn't look anything like a normal infection. A medical person needs to look at that in person not photographs.
Take a look at these diferential diagnoses and see if any of them describe what you have then take it back to the GP.

Duckingella · 11/08/2024 12:57

I know you don't want to go to A&E but please go.

If you used bleach without gloves you could have a chemical burn.

Burns of any type can be a magnet for infection and you're already infected and it could easily be a real issue very quickly;you can get sepsis from a skin infection.
