Need a cheap phone to just basically receive calls and texts and a cheap pay as you go thing I think. It’s to make sure one person can get hold of the other over night, so only one number so phone can stay on loud etc. Unless anyone clever can tell me how to get an iPhone to sound loud if someone phones or rings on sleep/silent but still mutes everything else?

Easy to do on your iPhone. Use do not disturb. Settings - focus - do not disturb - gives you options of who to allow calls from.

iPhone has favourites. Put the one person in your favourites, then put phone in do not disturb mode. Only calls from that number will make noise until you disable dnd.

You can put an iPhone on do not disturb and from the main settings app on the phone add an exception.

Isn't that what the emergency contact setting does?

I’ve tried and failed and looking for something to have a different/louder ring tone at night. Will try again with the settings

Why do you need a different or louder ring tone? Set the ring volume high and it’ll wake you. Any favourite number will still ring during Do Not Disturb. Anyone else really needing you and it’ll ring if they call twice within a certain time frame.

I want it so no notification from messenger/whatsapp/texts etc but to ring louder than usual or more obvious text sound overnight.

Do Not Disturb stops all texts/whatsapps/whatever notifications. Your favourited phone numbers will ring still. I have my daughter’s phone set for that and I used to have my dad’s when he needed some care before he died. You can have as many as you want. You could turn the ringer volume up at night but honestly I’m not sure why you would need to.

Thanks I’ll give it another go.

You can set up a focus to allow the one person to ring/text through, and silence all others. You can then set the ringtone and alerts volume to change by pressing the side buttons, so then you can turn it up before you go to sleep.
