Smelly freshly washed carpet

Not a euphemism 🤣 I hired a rug doctor, worked well but 36 hours later the carpet absolutely stinks and is still damp.
opened windows, lit 2 fires, tried to blot the carpet with a towel..
Can this be saved? Or will it smell vile forever?

The smell may be coming from the underlay if you got the carpet too wet. Smells like urine.

We’ve had this, it’s horrible but it eventually goes. I’m not sure why the carpet smells and it’s frustrating when all you want to do is have a clean carpet but gradually it wears off. I,just tried to keep the windows open most of the time.

If it’s wool they always smell.

It goes.

I don't think the rug doctor cleaning fluid smells good and it's not as good as the Vax platinum fluid at getting the dirt out either. Underlay can smell quite a bit too.

Wool carpet and it smells of piss🤣

Thank you all. I will air the life out of the house for a few days and hope it disappears. @WonderingWanda can one put that Platinum juice in a rug doctor? Incase I ever lose my mind and scrub the whole house again

@Smellyrug I reckon you could, I put the rug dr one in my vax. We used to have wool carpets and they smelt exactly like that when I washed them.....was convinced the previous owners pets had peed all over them....well that and some dubious stains.

Hire a dehumidifier
