Can someone explain in layman's terms what the purpose of web cookies are and why I always get asked to accept them. Should I be accepting or declining them?

A cookie is a file with a very small amount of info on it, just enough to identify your computer as part of a network. It allows the website to tailor information towards you as a user (e.g., targeted ads). GDPR legislation means that websites have to tell you they're doing this and get your permission. Accepting or declining cookies shouldn't change your ability to use the site (though sites have the ability to refuse access if you decline, I've only ever had this happen once though).

Id instinctively decline anything thats not essential to view the site.
