Should I be pumping?

Firstly, Hello I am new here. I have found lots of useful, comforting answers to questions I have had as a new mum to a now 2 month old, so thank you.

Secondly, how long does it take to learn all the abbreviations 😂

Thirdly, why are obvious topics not available in the topic section when starting a thread? I was trying to find breastfeeding but there is only ‘breast pumps’. And yesterday I tried to find ‘baby clothes’ or ‘clothing’ and even that’s not there.

Forthly, the actual question I came here to ask….

I am breastfeeding, and my baby is now going longer throughout the night. Sometimes 6-7 hours. I wake up with full leaky boobs and feed her straight away. But should I be waking to pump in the night or is it ok to carry on as I am?

Thank you all!

I never pumped with Ds2, ever. The way I saw it it was a complete system. Your supply will adjust. If you pump, you are going to continue to be uncomfortably full during the night, whereas if you don't, your body will adjust to your baby's schedule and eventually you will be less full overnight.

The only thing is, it's no fun being rock hard, a bit sore and leaky while you wait for things to catch up. So, I say, take your sleep, sleep in a towel and put extra breast pads in.

And of course, if you want to pump, you can. In fact you could end up with some decent frozen milk supplies!

There is no right or wrong answer here.

There's a list of abbreviations somewhere, maybe in the 'getting started' section? You'll get the hang of it!

You can pump in the night but you don't need to. I'd prioritise sleep if it was me.

Your supply will adjust by itself.

Hello and welcome to MN!

There's a list of the acronyms here if you need to look one up Wink

The subjects aren't always obvious are they?

There's an "Infant Feeding" Section under "Feed the World" which will cover BFing, Combi-feeding and FFing. You'll also find the Weaning Section under Feed the World for when baby is a bit older.

For the clothes I'd pick either "Parenting" or "Chat".

I wouldn't wake her or pump. As others have said, it might be uncomfortable but your supply will adjust soon enough. If you start pumping your body will think it needs to produce even more milk Wink

Thank you all for the warm welcome and great advice. I can see myself spending late nights on here just asking a million questions that have probably already been asked but sometimes it’s just comforting!

ahh infant feeding section, haha thank you, I obviously got bored hunting the list and missed it!
