ASMR videos

I was watching an Olima Omega video the other day and he mentioned ASMR. So of course I Googled it.

Apparently some folk are stimulated by listening to fingernail tapping, whispering, clicking noises etc. It relaxes them. There's a few you-tubers who make ASMR videos.

Anyway, this is the opposite of stimulating or relaxing for me. It makes me want to scratch my eyes out (should be ears? Lol).

Just wondering how many of you are fans/not fans of ASMR.

I love ASMR but not all of it. I love listening to someone writing with a pen. It's weird but the sound of the nib is sooooooo relaxing. It's like a very gentle tapping. Don't like eating or anything like that. But it has to be real life. The You Tube videos don't have the same effect. I didn't even know it was a thing until I read about it on here a few years ago then cottoned on that was the pleasurable feeling I got when listening to writing.

Not a fan either. Makes me want to remove my ears and throw them in a fire.

Makes me feel prickly all over and want to walk out of my own skin

There's different kinds of ASMR. I like videos speaking softly and quietly, hairbrushing sounds, describing a massage etc, I don't like videos with people making nonsense mouth sounds or lots of unnecessary tapping, that grates with me.

I hate the sound of people eating, the sound of cutlery scraping on a plate, the sound of the dishwasher being loaded or plates being stacked.

I have never understood why going for a meal is considered romantic 😬

As soon as I see a video of anyone tapping their nails on anything I feel rage. I just don't understand it and have to scroll. Same with whispering.

I used to feel the same with that Cornish ice cream advert where there's whispering and slurping. Ugh.

I relax to cleaning videos, especially rugs and pools. My latest thing is watching rug making with the trimming. Love that.

All of those on social media make me want to break things, I'm relieved to know it's not just me!

savoycabbage · 08/08/2024 20:37

I hate them all. They make me feel on edge.

I love nails tapping on objects, finger flicking and sponge squeezing, wet and dry.

I’ve had the asmr response all my life and I’m now nearly 50- I just thought it was a weird thing that only happened to me.
can’t tell you how overjoyed I was when in 2016 asmr became a ‘thing’ and was given a name.
Its peaked now on you tube and there are thousands and thousands of videos on it.
I love most but hate the eating ones.
DH can’t listen to any and gets rage.
They make me so so relaxed and I struggle to stay awake after 10 mins.
Bliss to me!

I only like a few of the massage/ meditation/holistic type ones. They are basically someone speaking in a low, gentle calming voice describing how they are doing a massage or how to breathe deeply while thinking about a different body part etc

Use it to help me get to sleep - definitely have to find the right person though, some voices are annoying. I don’t personally really understand the clicking, tapping, eating etc type ones - I wouldn’t find that relaxing. Maybe the holistic/massage/meditation ones aren’t really ASMR though (even though they have that hashtag) as it’s definitely as much or more talking than noises?

I love ASMR but also have misophonia and the line between relaxation and enjoyment of sounds vs wanting to tear my own head off is very thin. I hate chewing or slopping noises but love whispering. There are certain ASMRtists I can listen to who have been doing it for years and do it because they enjoy it - they are usually the best. There are far too many people starting YouTube channels on ASMR who are trying to jump on the bandwagon and make a name for themselves because of how big ASMR has become. Also, it really annoys me that you get some girls with ASMR channels who clearly want to become influencers (no actual interest in ASMR) and put a sexual spin on it - overly touchy with the model or having a model with huge breasts wearing a tiny top. It’s meant to be about being cared for, in a maternal way I suppose - not sexual
