What have you been listening to on holiday?
I'm bogged down with too much choice!

If you like psychological thrillers, Behind Closed Doors by B A Paris is brilliant.

Anything by K L Slater, really easy to listen to, not high brow but great for beside the pool

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 08/08/2024 19:32

Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir made for an excellent listen

Ooh I've been listening to a few recently (when the rain was non stop to cheer me up)

I can recommend

The Curfew by TM Logan read by Richard Armitage

The Holiday also by TM Logan read by Laura Kirman

Lie With Me by Sabine Durrant read by Kirk Bage

Sun Damage by Sabine Durrant read by Sofia Zervudachi

The Cliff House by Chris Brookmyre read by Sarah Barron

Summerwater by Sarah Moss read by Morven Christie

All with a summer theme

The latest Robert Galbraith (j k Rowling) The Running Grave was excellent on audible. I listened on a sun bed. It lasted the whole holiday too it’s that long.

Which is the best way of listening to audio books? I like podcasts but like the idea of a longer listen. I often wake at 4am and can't sleep again.

How about Demon Copperhead?

Working out how to access your local library’s audiobook offering is the cheapest/free way.

Amazon’s service Audible is the easiest. Depending what deal you get offered it’s between £4.99 and £9.99 a month but this includes 1 book you choose and the very large Audible plus catalogue that you can listen to unlimited included books.

I’ve just listened to Prima Facie by Suzie Miller read by the excellent Jodie Comer. It’s soooo good although I had to take a couple of breaks when the tension rose. A soothing swim in the pool helped!

Shardlake CJ Sansom is an excellent series. Thursday Murder Club I really enjoyed. Slightly leftfield, but Jodi Taylor's St Marys books I loved listening to as light reading. She is the only author who I think would be my best friend - I actually feel sometimes I know her (this is soooo not me as I never give a damn about celebrity types).

If you're anything like me, you'll fall asleep within a couple of minutes anyway (atavistic response to bedtime stories, I think) so worth downloading some freebies! I like the episodic ones on BBC Sounds because if you drop off, you don't end up missing the whole book and having weird dreams.

I do this lol, I listen to the freebies on audible so I don't waste my downloaded book that I've paid for, also BBC sounds for the same reason😁, I wake up with the audiobook still playing and think wtf? Who is Jenny? Etc. 😭it does tend to be at night in bed though so I listen to the ones I want to follow on my headphones during the day

None of this is true by Lisa Jewel is absolutely brilliant on audiobook.
