So here we are in Vienna and the Taylor concert has been cancelled. We’ve been here all week and done everything we want to. We’ve even been to Slovakia. WHAT CAN WE DO TOMORROW? We don’t want to walk around the city anymore but I can’t see any day trips we can do that aren’t hours on the train.

help me make the best of this please !!!

I’ve looked at them but they’re all about 3 hours away.

yes it’s crap but we’re trying to be grateful for this outcome as well.

Danube trip by boat? You could go to Krems by train then go Krems-Melk in the Wachau region, or a part of that, on the river and back.

tootyfruitypickle · 08/08/2024 06:26

Thank you DD is really shaken and doesn’t want to use public transport. I was ok last night as was focused on dd, but having read more this morning am also quite shaken, seems we’ve been pretty lucky in some ways. I mean it was only stopped yesterday and we were going tonight. We’re going to go to a couple of museums but just take it easy today I think.

We are here too, 😢. Glad to be safe but devastated for dd. Not sure what to do with ourselves to be honest. 💔

TheBirdintheCave · 08/08/2024 08:44

What's happened? We're due to go to Vienna in three weeks 😩

Pedallleur · 08/08/2024 09:01

Get the train as suggested. Salzburg is lovely. I went on the Mozart. The Vienna -Paris express. Had a great day out. Austrian Alps?

twopercent · 08/08/2024 09:02

So sorry this has happened to you, but so glad you are safe xxx

millymoo1202 · 08/08/2024 09:02

I’m gutted for you all but it was the right thing to do. Hope you all enjoy the rest of your hols.

What's happened? We're due to go to Vienna in three weeks 😩

A terrorist attack was planned for the stadium

Scentedjasmin · 08/08/2024 09:07

Saltzburg or Halstatt. I've just been to both as currently interrailing with kids. Yes they are a trek, but you could stay overnight too and the trains are generally very good. Helbrunn Palce with it's trick fountains is beautiful and fun. Max70 hotel in Salzburg do reasonably priced family rooms. There is also a nice clean youth hostel in Obertraum I think near Halstatt.

Scentedjasmin · 08/08/2024 09:10

Just to add that the trains in Austria aren't like in the UK. They mostly run to time, the stations are clean and there is some great scenery to enjoy, instead of the usual grey skies. I would definitely head to Salzburg, even if just for the day. It's a wonderful place.

tootyfruitypickle · 08/08/2024 09:40

Thank you I did look but the journey is too long. We fly home tomorrow otherwise I would have def done an overnight somewhere. However, we are hoping for a rescheduled concert and will do these things if we come back. We’re ok now. Actually feeling grateful and relieved .

@MILLYmo0se Oh that's awful! I'm glad everyone is safe ❤️ Taylor and the concert goers must be so disappointed though :(

Letsgodancing · 08/08/2024 10:33

I'm so sorry for everyone who is in Vienna ready for the concerts, people will have spent fortunes on hotels /flights and the city in general.
Of course Austrian intelligence have prevented something awful happening and that's so important.
Try and enjoy your time there, don't over exert yourselves.
I'm sure many people will be devestated and it's a valid emotion to feel. Of course safety comes first but when it's something you've been looking forward to for months, it's a rotten thing to happen

WingSluts · 08/08/2024 11:20

Have you done all the usual touristy bits? Is there something left you could do at a slower pace like a relaxed look around the Naschmarkt then lunch? The aquarium is great. Or people watch from a pavement café?

When I've felt a bit burned out or tired on holiday I've been to the cinema and watched a couple of films back to back with popcorn, nachos and a giant drink. I'd never do it at home so it felt like a bit of a treat.

Bowlowner · 08/08/2024 11:27

Hey @tootyfruitypickle We are in the same boat. Been here a couple of days and due to go to the concert on Saturday. I'm so sorry for your DD.😥We have two devastated teens with us who are trying to put a brave face on it. Obvs we are very very glad that everyone is safe but boy has it sucked the joy out of what has so far been a lovely holiday. Like you, we are going to take it easy today and see if we can come up with some fun things to do with the rest of our time here.

If you want any museum ideas we went to the Mythos Mozart yesterday which was lovely. It's a bit pricey (although we bought Vienna discount cards a few months ago and this museum was a freebie for us) but it was interactive and fun and not at all crowded. It's about a 5 min walk from the cathedral.

We are also planning to make a day trip to Puchberg am Schneeberg, which is I think at the foot of the nearest mountain range, about an hour by train, and then are going to take a little electric train up to the top of the mountain. Don't know if that might be something that interests you?

Did your DD manage to get any merch? Ours went y/day to the stadium for theirs and said it was a lovely atmosphere. They did a bit of bracelet swapping too, so at least they have that happy memory, albeit fleeting.

TheBirdintheCave · 08/08/2024 13:30

@Bowlowner Have you found the Vienna discount card to be worth it?

Ormally · 08/08/2024 18:36

Sorry it has not been a great trip - I can see that the aftermath would cause some upsetting readjustment. Safe travels.

tootyfruitypickle · 08/08/2024 20:31

@Bowlowner theres a ton of Swifties walking around Vienna atm singing, we were with them for a while. DD did some swapping there.

our best trip was on the boat to Bratislava and we did a walking tour, I’d really recommend that .

have a lovely hol xx

We’ve had a good day today. We were supposed to be at the concert tonight so dd has been pretty upset this evening. I think she will be ok tomorrow. We have met so many lovely Swifties today xx

Budapest is close if you're looking for a trip away from Vienna!

@Bowlowner Have you found the Vienna discount card to be worth it?

Hi @TheBirdintheCave I only just saw your message. I think there are a few different cards. The one we had was the Lower Austria Card (Niederösterreich-CARD) which is marketed more towards Austrian residents than tourists. We chose it because it included a mountain trip on the Salamander train which is quite pricey and something we really wanted to do. We made a concerted effort to get our monies worth and do other included activities such as the House of Music, Mythos Mozart, Ferris wheel at Praterpark and tobogganing 😆We saved about 50 euros in total although the card was expensive to start with (maybe 70 euros? Half that for U16s). I don't really know anything about the other cards but I can recommend buying the travel card for public transport via the Wiener-Linien app!

TheBirdintheCave · 21/08/2024 23:53

@Bowlowner Thank you for the advice! I'll look into it 😬 Only a week to go now and I feel woefully under prepared 😂
