A few days away. Where?

If you had a few days by yourself to get away where would you go?
Reccomendations welcome.

I have a budget of around £400 so it'll be the UK I think as not a huge budget.
I can drive and live near York so can get the train too.
Would prefer not to drive/train for more than 4-5 hours but could do a stop over night half way if longer.
I'm open to city, beach, town, village.
I like walking (not mountains/hills), reading, swimming, nice buildings, animals, cathedrals, nice scenery but 100% open to other things.
Conscious that the riots might not be over by then so baring that in mind but they seem to be in so many places so that's tricky.

Any recommendations welcome. Happy to stay b&b, hotel, glamping, holiday cottage but probably not camping.

Have you done much along the NE coast ?

Lake District ? I know there are tall mountains there, but there are also some lovely places without crossing too many contour lines.

Personally I love NW Wales - at any time of year. Beautiful beaches, gorgeous walks (again, there are mountains, but there are also walks round lakes for example), loads of history, just beautiful scenery everywhere.

Or, less known, what about Shropshire or surrounding area? History aplenty with Ironbridge, Telford, Shrewsbury, Ludlow. Food festivals. Lovely walking and scenery.

Anglesey
Cardiganshire or northern Pembrokeshire
Stirling/Trossachs area of Scotland

Filey is beautiful and only about an hour away.

The city of Lincoln is a fab city break.

Derbyshire is gorgeous;Matlock and Matlock bath are popular

I'd go somewhere a couple of hours away so not too far but further than an easy day trip that you could do any time.

So maybe the Peak District, Northumberland or Lancashire coast?

Hathersage in the Peak District has a heated outdoor swimming pool and lots of options for easier walks, also NT properties. It's also on the edge of Sheffield that has a few museums.

But then you obviously need to find suitable accommodation within budget so that would depend on when you're looking to go as to what's available.

Liverpool, if the riots have stopped obviously.
Beautiful buildings including two cathedrals.

Thank you. Plenty to think about.

Re Liverpool you could get a train across to Chester and have a day at the zoo, or stay in Chester and train into Liverpool for the day.
If driving then there's also Knowsley Safari Park
