My prison fantasy to get through my TBR pile of books

Not to make light of the current unrest in the UK (and not including Scotland less they get arsey about being lumped in with the knuckle dragging Northerner’s as per another thread) but if I received a hefty prison sentence I think I would very much enjoy the element of ‘taking some time off’ from life and being in prison. A little like imagining some time in hospital for something not too serious but serious enough you don’t need to do the daily grind.

Onto the practical matters though… would I be able to receive book parcels? Sure there would be a library but I’d imagine it wouldn’t be very well stocked? My TBR pile would go down quite quickly. What about small home comforts like a naice blanket and my preferred brand of tea and mug? Would I have to use prison issued writing paper for notes home or could I take some posh notecards in? I’m imagining I’m either in for something either so very violent that no one would mess with me or be like the guy in The Shawshank Redemption. I’ll admit I likely wouldn’t like the communal showers and the beds don’t look comfy. No mumsnet either 😞

I do seriously want to know the answers but not currently awaiting sentencing nor planning on committing any crime. Surely some of you have pondered this before but have more knowledge than that gleaned from ITV Dramas?

Books, yes, can be sent in via family from authorised sources only

Most of what you mentioned you can buy on your weekly canteen sheet....no mug or blankets but you can buy a duvet/pillow on canteen

Look on gov.uk website/prison for details
