Intense gnawing pain in stomach - on my period but this isn't normal for me

I'm on day 2 of my period and for the last few days I have been having really intense, gnawing almost burning pain in my upper abdomen. It's in the centre of my stomach and above my belly button. I never get this pain on my period, I only ever get lower back pain. It feels quite high up to be period pain? I've taken paracetamol as I always do during my period as my back pain is bad, but it's not helping this pain at all.

I keep eating as it almost feels like hunger pangs but it isn't. I'm struggling to work as it hurts so badly.

Anyone have any ideas of what this could be?

Have you taken a pregnancy test?

Have you taken a pregnancy test?

Definitely not pregnant, unless there has been an immaculate conception!

Sounds exactly like Gastritis, I get it a lot and is in the location you describe with the same pain. Eating holds the gnawing pain off a little but it comes back. I usually take Esomeprazole which you can get form Boots in the form of Nexium and I also take Gaviscon. After three days of Nexium you'll feel better. Stay off booze, caffeine, spices and acidic stuff.

Another vote for gastritis... (currently suffering horribly here!)

Gastritis or an ulcer
