What's the context? You said wagon so I'm thinking western USA type but guess it could be pre car uk or Australia etc?

May be havering but seem to recall that
Mary's lover had been locked up and was being freed when a fellow prisoner killed her in the wagon leaving the prison as an act of revenge on Mary (authorised by one of the noblemen - can't remember which one )
