I remember thus being on everything, there was bedding, wallpaper, note books, clothing, bags. Why was it so popular?? Where did it come from? Was there something on TV?

PleasantValleySunday · 06/08/2024 19:36

Ah I remember all this. I didn't have Poirrot, but did have the primary colour geometric 80s bedroom.

Does anyone remember the Pendelfin Ornaments and the Sarah Moon posters ?

Yes pendelfin!! When I did homecare lots of my elderly ladies had Pendelfin stuff. It pops up regularly in charity shops, I assume the old ladies have passed away and the families didn't want it . It is a bit dated nowadays x

@HeyTalkToMeGoose We had two - I am sure one was Peter Craig, but I can't remember what the other was.

Peter Craig!! That's just unearthed a ton of memories - i can't believe I'd forgotten my mums catalogue!

invisiblecat · 06/08/2024 19:43

Eternal Beau crockery. My friend pronounced it Eternal B.O.

I remember Legs & Co dancing to the Bee Gee' s "Tragedy". They were all dressed & made up as Pierrots.

Housewife2010 · 06/08/2024 19:53

Found it!

Bananalanacake · 06/08/2024 19:56

We had Kay's catalogue, whenever my mum was expecting a delivery she would stick a card on the window, a white tick on a blue background, to show the delivery driver I assume.

This is hideous, I wish I did not click on that!

MadameMassiveSalad · 06/08/2024 20:03

Ha! So weird. I remember people having that.

I guess it's no more strange than a "brat girl summer" on a green sign... or "dabbing" 😆

MadameMassiveSalad · 06/08/2024 20:06

So chintzy! 😆😆😆

What was the fascination with Pierrot in the 80s?
Allnewtometoo · 06/08/2024 20:08

@MadameMassiveSalad I suppose though, a lot if the stuff that is popular now is either more kids stuff (unicorns etc) or linked to tv/cartoons.

Adults had Pierott as well as kids, it's odd!

@okayornot Ooh, no I doubt it - M&S was a bit posh for mum & dad 😄

Housewife2010 · 06/08/2024 20:20

Whilst we're all in Pierrot mode, here's Twiggy as Pierrot's girlfriend Pierette in Ken Russell's 1970 musical "The Boyfriend".

Jins · 06/08/2024 20:25

I always thought it stemmed from the Ashes to Ashes video with David Bowie dressed as a giant Pierrot. That was 1980 and it started around then

IWanderedLonely · 06/08/2024 20:33

My mum had Freemans and John England catalogues - the excitement when the new ones arrived and smell - ink and new paper, I loved them.
My cousin had a Pierrot bedroom, I was very jealous.

Irridescantshimmmer · 06/08/2024 20:46

My friend also had the Pierrot merch, I remember her wallpaper and thought it was amazing, aged 11 but I was not allowed it in case it " gave me nightmares" probably due to my sleepwalking which I had been doing for years before and without Pierrot wallpaper!

tinytemper66 · 06/08/2024 20:56

I had everything even note books and address book'

That looks so fresh, even now. I like to think that was Sarah Brightman in the chair.

Maverick66 · 06/08/2024 21:26

Creeped me out! My sister had a porcelain doll and porcelain masks on her wall ....hated it!

PoliteOtter · 06/08/2024 21:34

Whatineed · 06/08/2024 17:28

My friends bedrooms were dripping in Pierrot - posters, lamp bases, lamp shades, pyjama cases, dolls, duvets and then sheets and valance in dusky pink.

I couldn't stand it. But I was equally tacky, I had a totally 80s bedroom, white walls and furniture with primary coloured plastic strip edgings and red plastic handles , yellow gloss skirting boards, a foldable sponge chair bed in red with white graph design and a duvet set covered in primary coloured triangles that Neil Morrissey had on his bed in "Men Behaving Badly" 🤣🤣🤣

My sister had this exact bedroom! And a small Pierrot poster for good measure.

parkrun500club · 06/08/2024 21:36

I loved Pierrot and had it on everything - curtains, wallpaper, duvet set, a picture.

My mum has a phobia about clowns. It was really good of her to go along with it all, I only realised that a few months ago! But it wasn't a nasty or scary clown.
