A decent phone that fits in my pocket

I am in the market for a new phone, but they are all so big! I usually get Samsung, but anything bigger than 6" just looks enormous and wouldn't fit in my trouser pockets.

I like my Samsung A34.

Dd1 has an iphone 13 & that fits nicely in her pocket. My S23Ultra otoh...is MASSIVE & only really comfortably fits in the front pocket of my cargo jeans (handy for gigs though - I can feel it in there!)

Pixel 7a or 8a great phones and 6.1"

Samsung flip? Mine fits nicely in my pocket, front or back.

I have an iPhone 13. Anything else is too big for my hands.

hexsnidgett · 06/08/2024 14:09

The flip looks lovely, but not sure about how well it would last.

I have an iPhone 13 mini.

It’s perfect

This drives me mad as well.

I usually go on GSM Arena and do their advanced search, limit it to a phone released in the last year or two (because I want to keep it as long as possible, so don't want it being outdated in a couple of years), android because I prefer that and then put the dimensions in and see what comes up.

2013-2016 era phones were perfectly sized. They are ridiculously huge now.

BertieBotts · 06/08/2024 14:22

I want to be able to use it one handed, so the flip doesn't work for that really.

It is annoying for that. You can't flip it with one hand like the flip phones of the early 00's.

I know some people have problems with the flip 4. I have the flip 5 which has lasted so far (about 6 months in). I have it insured just in case though.

The size is a massive plus for me. I rarely use a handbag these days - keys and phone only so having a compact phone is a real plus for me.

I have a Samsung A35. It's too big. I wanted another Samsung as switching stuff over is really easy. I can't keep it in my bra any more.

MissFizzyPop · 06/08/2024 15:54

I've just got a Pixel 8a - compact and seven years of updates...

Precipice · 06/08/2024 16:03

I got a Unihertz Jelly 2 a few years ago (2021?). About 3.5 inches! They have some newer models now, but the Jelly 2 runs Android 11.

When I was looking for it (Revolut updated past my previous phone, which was a Samsung Galaxy S4 'mini' (large to me), I was looking on the basis of 'small phone'. I found a bunch of listicles trying to convince me that 4.5 or 5 inches was small.

Dartmoorcheffy · 06/08/2024 16:06

I had the flip 5 and now got the flip 6. Absolutely love the design. Got a really good protective case on it and never had any problems. Dropped it loads of times as I'm so clumsy and the flip 5 was still in immaculate condition after 8 months that I got a free switch up upgrade

BertieBotts · 06/08/2024 20:00

I have a Pixel 4a, and find it slightly too big to use comfortably. (69mm x 144mm). The 8a is bigger in every dimension 😫 why are such monster phones considered "compact"??

Actually I remember thinking DH's Samsung Galaxy s2 was too big Grin That was 66mm wide and 125mm tall. You can't even get phones that small any more unless they are the total budget ones aimed at 11 year olds 🙄 I want a decent camera to take photos of the kids and for it not to crash when I'm browsing mumsnet.

I can open mine with one hand, I've got the case with the ring on the back and then I jam my thumb in, it opens perfectly. I love it because it reminds me of the tiny one I had in my youth, I had the one where you could change the colour of the light on the front.

hexsnidgett · 06/08/2024 20:17

Hmm the flip is so expensive. I always buy my phones preowned and keep them until they are due to stop being updated.
I am tempted by the unihertz, I think they were still crowdfunding last time I bought a phone, but I wanted one then.

I know what you mean. It is so hard to get a small phone nowadays. Sony Xperia I've found is a smaller decent phone
