A balm for our anti-racist souls ❤️

Some of you have probably already heard/seen this, as apparently it's doing the rounds. But in case you haven't, and if you've been feeling really low about all of racism and riots recently. I strongly suggest you devote 7 minutes of your time to listen to this guy -

A beautiful human being. He/this clip made me cry, with relief mostly I think... He speaks for many of us, and it's the language of love and peace 🥰

Is this LBC’s best ever caller?

Shelagh Fogarty could listen to caller Darren 'for hours', as he tells of his mentality around multiculturalism in Britain, shutting down fears over immigrat...

Love this- thank you for sharing. A wonderful way to start the day!
I live in one of the cities where there has been rioting. I went along to the 'clean up' partly because I needed to see those who had wanted to do something positive. It worked- I met some lovely people and it made me feel better about the world.

Darren is my new hero. Thanks for sharing, this world needs a lot more Darren’s, heart and soul of the community.

Ah, that's great that you did your bit, and met some lovely like-minded souls in the process. Fortunately no riots in my area. I've felt so sorry for those who are, especially minorities of course. I think it's great that so many in those areas have turned out to show love with deeds x

Ah that's lovely. There are more good people than racists.

It's a strike back against some of the snobbery and stereotyping of the last few days as well.

Theimpossiblegirl · 06/08/2024 08:22

When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, "Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.
Fred Rogers

I always go back to this.

Definitely 👏
I've found both the racism and the classism really upsetting. Darren the doorman counters both those things 😊

Oh wow, that's a brilliant quote. I must remember it. Thank you x

Naw. Those are generations that grew up together so there wasn’t a divide.

some time in the last 20 years or so there’s been a massive divide of us and them. It’s horrible. I dread having to have conversations with my son about racisim but the reality is that I will have to when he’s older.

At the moment he knows there is different colours of skin but everyone is equal. Especially as we’re a mixed race family.

I love how Darren says that he looks a bit rough and he knows it so he goes out of his way to put people at ease. What a wonderful man.

I also love the 'look for the helpers' quote @Theimpossiblegirl .

spiderlight · 07/08/2024 10:11

Thank you for sharing this. It's made me a bit teary.

namechangefandango · 14/08/2024 06:45

Heard this yesterday, it made me cry. I shared it on social media and got the biggest response from friends , bigger than I’ve had in a long time and lots of shares.
its so beautiful and heartfelt and seeing it shared so much has been a wonderful reminder that not everyone is harbouring heinous thoughts and feelings.
We need to keep speaking out loud about this.

ThePure · 14/08/2024 09:03

Aww that's made me cry (in a good way)

I love how he has pride in his local community and his country but that extends to everyone and he recognises the enrichment and the service that immigrants have brought to the U.K.

I work in an unpopular area of the NHS and our staff are at least 50% from ethnic minority backgrounds. The racism that I see colleagues put up with on a day to day basis is staggering and yet they carry on. We often have bring and share lunches which I really look forward to as I get to try home cooked food from all over the world.

I can never understand how people can't see that immigration is a good thing. The ONS has clearly found it is a net benefit to our country. The NHS would be dead in the water if not for all the people from all over the world who work in it.

OneCoolPearlOP · 14/08/2024 09:08

Awwww
I've lived in areas with racism on FB pages etc but in real life I've been treated wonderfully by a lot of Darrens

Your poor colleagues 😔
Please tell them most of us are so grateful to them for their wonderful contribution towards our NHS and our society in general x
