Rant needed, horrible encounter on dog walk

I'm feeling massively upset following the worst dog walk ever earlier this evening. I don't want this to turn into an XL bashing thread. I've always had dogs, work in a kennel, have previously worked in rescue and have working breeds.

10yr old ds, lab and I had 2 XL bullies charge at us on a residential street. No owners in sight. I yelled at them and tried to kick them to back away. When the owners eventually appeared they threatened to kick my lab.

Report them to the police and hope you and your son and dear dog can have a wee treat and settle your nerves- must have been awful.

Wahine24 · 05/08/2024 22:45

Agree with previous poster report including location because so many people have cameras at home now.
I would have reacted the same as you

MalinoisMoxie · 05/08/2024 22:48

Poor ds is really shaken up. I have a sore throat from yelling.

that is awful! Are you okay?

Did you recognise them/the owners? Had they got loose?

MalinoisMoxie · 05/08/2024 22:54

I've never seen the dogs before, unsure if they were visitors, or just moved in round the corner, I had literally just left my cul ds sac!

The man did say they shouldn't have been out, but blamed me for making it worse by reacting. Fucking speechless.

I use a mobility scooter and a guy let his dog come flying at me, nearly knocked me off.... His response was " oh yeah he does that" no apology no telling his dog no, nothing. That was broad day light
Some people are irresponsible dickheads

lowlight · 05/08/2024 22:56

Report to the police

MalinoisMoxie · 05/08/2024 23:06

@Wahine24 that's appalling. What is wrong with people.

I'm really shook up. Other dog didn't go out, as I'm not sure if I'm going to get some nutter try to kick her. Because I'm the one in the wrong?!

I am so sorry. My poor cat was attacked a few months ago, and the owners were so blase about it. She still cant walk properly.

Wahine24 · 05/08/2024 23:20

@MalinoisMoxie honestly some people should not be allowed to have dogs.
I've got two , who I can't walk but my partner does and it worries me so much. It's not always XL bullies there a guy up that street with a retriever that has attacked so many dogs the guys is so not bothered as the dog is "protecting his house"

Marseillaise · 05/08/2024 23:28

Report it. It sounds as if the owners live near to where you were, and it's appalling that they allowed two dangerous dogs to get out. The police need to look into this because next time it could be a small child they attack.

MalinoisMoxie · 05/08/2024 23:29

@Atethehalloweenchocs Poor cat, did they at least contribute to vet bills?

@Wahine24 I can believe that, the worst bites I've had at work have been from golden retrievers.

It's their attitude that's upset me most. All they should have said was 'shit, sorry, is everyone ok?' it was a rambled 'i have 5 dog's, ' you shouldn't have batted them away'

DH thinks my scary yelling had them panicking so they went on defense mode.

Wahine24 · 05/08/2024 23:32

I would have kicked his dogs away from my child/dog/self.
The owner is in the wrong

Atethehalloweenchocs · 05/08/2024 23:34

Yes, @MalinoisMoxie - although they were shaping up to say they werent going to and seemed to want to shrug the whole thing off as one of those things. Their initial questions were did I have insurance, and that theirs did not cover this kind of situation. They also said they had workmen in who left their gate open. I was fully prepared to take them to small claims court and perhaps they picked up on that because they did pay in the end (not before they called my vet to question him about the bill). I would be mortified if my dog caused alarm or damage to another person or animal. Not telling people not to over react. Sadly people with arsehole dogs seem to often be arseholes themselves.

MalinoisMoxie · 05/08/2024 23:37

I've downplayed it to ds, and told him that if it ever happened again he should yell, scream to get attention, and to never run away. You will never outrun a dog.I didn't panic at the time. But now I'm thinking what ifs.

If I had had the other dog with me I would have been trying to drag a dog aggressive Mali away and trying to keep them off of ds too. My lab just sat behind me.

Absolutely embarrassing. Owners nowadays can’t even control their dogs anymore. Yesterday a stupid little pug jumped at me and ruined my new trousers. Absolute bollocks.

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 17/11/2024 14:47

Report it to the Police but make sure you tell them the dogs were threatening to you and your son not your dog. The Police won’t do anything about dog on dog attacks so make sure you tell them how scary it was for you and your son.
