Has anyone else felt like this after their second child?

I have DS1 who is 7 and DS2 who is 2 weeks so pretty big age gap (same dad). DS1 and I are really close but since DS2 was born I have almost found myself "going off" him, I find him annoying and just want to be with my baby. I feel like a TERRIBLE person already so please no hate- I don't want to feel this way. And I don't think I am showing it either but did anyone else feel like this and when did it go?!

Yes I did, I have 3 children.

I think it's a natural feeling?

Don't worry it comes back. I felt so guilty at the time. I can't remember exactly but when the new baby was around 3 months these feelings started to fade.

I love (and am irritated by them 😁) in equal measures now (16, 8 and 3)

I think it’s normal. If you think about it back in cavewoman days your 7 year old would be considered independent, out hunting and gathering. You’d be the baby’s only protection, only source of food and warmth. His survival depended on you and women were the ones who provided the next generation of breeders and hunter gatherers. We still have those basic instincts wired into our dna.

I feel so awful about it. I feel totally disconnected from my eldest.

You gave birth just two weeks ago, you’re looking after a tiny baby. You’ll feel different in a few weeks, I’m sure. Don’t beat yourself up. Would it help to talk to your health visitor? ( I’m not sure how long midwives are involved these days )
