Just a quick one if I may!
Please be gentle as this is rooted in quite severe anxiety. Oh and yes, I'm getting help for it!

Would you take your young DC (just you & them) to the Durham/Hartlepool area this week for a night or 2 in a Premier Inn? With all the rioting going on in Middlesbrough, Sunderland, Newcastle & Hartlepool? Or would it put you off in case it escalates even further? I’m not familiar with the area at all, so I’m unsure on how close we’d even be to any of it.
The reason we're going is something that could be moved to a later date, but we were looking forward to it. Probably just anxiety but opinions welcome!

Also, yes I do realise families and vulnerable people are living & working in all of the cities where rioting is occurring but would you voluntarily put yourself in any of those cities? After all, their behaviour so far hasn't had any apparent rhyme/reason so why wouldn't they target random strangers?! I am physically disabled and my child has SEN so I guess we're vulnerable also.
I know many of these thugs have been travelling to different riots so knowing our luck, they'd be staying in the same bloody Premier Inn 🤦‍♀️🙃

As a side note, I can’t imagine how frightened the elderly must be in these areas! it's all so unpredictable.

EDIT: To be clear that last part should say "I know THAT many of these thugs are travelling...."

I absolutely do not know any rioters! 🤣

If you can postpone it then I would do.

thaegumathteth · 05/08/2024 02:16

If it was right in the town centre I'd maybe consider postponing it but otherwise I'd go

This is the location of it. Pretty close to the centre of Middlesbrough actually but not right in it.

Better off around Durham.

Well I'm worried it'll start there too

I’d definitely go, there’s been too many times Ive seen stuff on the news and checked with friends in that area and discovered everything is fine. The media has a way of making a bin on fire look like the fall of Rome

MaidOfSteel · 05/08/2024 04:04

Wolviston & Wynyard are miles away from Middlesbrough. The closest town to them is Billingham. You'll be fine. Don't let the thugs stop you getting on with your life.

WhenWillWanksWildly · 05/08/2024 06:32

Yeah the Wynyard one is miles and miles away and more like a motorway services type of place. You’ll be fine.

CurlewKate · 05/08/2024 07:08

I think you'll be fine. BUT if you're worried about it and you can postpone, then I would. You won't have a good time if you're fretting.

HauntedbyMagpies · 05/08/2024 09:30

Thank you! That reassurance is exactly what I needed 🙏
