How can I avoid getting water in my ears when swimming?

So I’ve started swimming and I am really enjoying it. However I keep getting water in my ears which is causing me discomfort and a bit of pain as I am then playing with my ears constantly trying to get the water out!!

I have a hat which I try to wear but that doesn’t stop water getting in nor keep from my hair from getting wet.

Would welcome any solutions for this - ear plug / hat recommendations? I am enjoying it so don’t want to stop!

SoulCap - hat fully covers my ears, and some basic earplugs from Amazon.

I wear bog-standard yellow ear plugs, work fine for me.

Silicon ear plugs

Wax plugs, most pharmacies including Boots do them, we used them for DC3 when they had grommets, worked really well.

You can buy specialist swim earplugs. Try Amazon.

I thought about using normal foam plugs but thought these might just go all funny in my ears?

We use Putty Buddies for DD who can’t get water into her ears for medicial reasons. Each set lasts 3 weeks. For adults it is possible to buy special reusable plugs which are moulded to your ear shape.
