Advice please on a driving incident..

Today I was in the town centre and stopped to park. Instead of putting the car into reverse, I put it into drive (it's an automatic). I went forward and obviously did an emergency brake. However, I did go up on the pavement and into a big plastic flower tub which was pushed maybe a foot or so. No damage to the tub or my car. No pedestrian affected.
My question is, if this gets reported to the police, what would be the outcome? I'm not sure how serious this incident is in terms of points etc.

What makes you think it will be reported to the police?

I think they are likely to throw the bouquet at you.

The police have quite enough paperwork to do this weekend without worrying about flowerpots.

If you were caught on camera, the control room staff at the local council might have a bit of a giggle about it, but if you did no damage and there was no reason to think you were rolling drunk, I can't imagine anybody taking much notice. 🙂

But I know how easy it is to hit the wrong petal

Last Monday someone in our town did similar and the pedestrian involved lost a leg, you've been lucky.

Because I've seen too many of those programmes where people do stupid stuff like this and it gets filmed 🙁

I have. Don't worry, lesson learned.

Thank you. I hope that's all that happens!
