Do you hold your breath in tunnels?

Not if you're driving, obviously, but if you're a passenger in a car or train. We've always done this as a family and consider it a normal game, with the winner holding their breath the whole way through or for the longest.

Of course.

DrRiverSong · 04/08/2024 15:38

Absolutely. Except the really bloody long one in France.

Mymanyellow · 04/08/2024 15:39

Yep.

olderbutwiser · 04/08/2024 15:41

Obviously. Can't imagine the consequences if I didn't.

This is what made me think of it - I managed nearly 1.5km outside Geneva yesterday!

Quite an achievement…how fast were you going 🤣

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 04/08/2024 15:54

Nope, never heard of this!

FailedOlympian · 04/08/2024 15:55

No but I duck when I drive under a low bridge or a barrier. I knows it’s ridiculous and in doing so I won’t make my car any lower but it’s just instinct

Allthehorsesintheworld · 04/08/2024 15:59

Never heard of this.
There’s a tunnel in North Wales where drivers beep the car horn. 🤷‍♀️

TheCadoganArms · 04/08/2024 16:00

Don't try it in the Chamonix Mont Blanc tunnel.

Tarkan · 04/08/2024 16:06

I used to as a child. We grew up in Glasgow so my brother and I used to always do it going through the Clyde Tunnel.

Unfortunately nowadays it sets off a heart condition I have somehow (anything that affects my breathing like a super windy day can do it too) so it's safer for me not to even attempt it now.

I duck too , an automatic response.

It was a coach driver on a mission to get us to the airport, so probably faster than we were supposed to.

I've never ducked but I have breathed in when it's a tight old bridge.

Me three, no idea why and every time I do it I think Why are you doing that! I have also been known to lean going round corners a habit from days of riding pillion on a motorbike.
