Car insurance abroad...

Hi all,

A really boring question but wondered if someone may know the answer (my car insurance are closed now and not open until Monday).

We are going to Spain next week. My father in law has a villa there and a car. My partner and siblings are insured but I'm not. Partner wants me to do some driving. What is the best way to get insured?

I thought my father inaw adding me to his insurance but my partner wants me to go through mine.
Would a UK company insure me for 11 days on a car abroad I don't own? Anyone know how expensive it's likely to be?

Thank you in advance.

Can you access your policy documents online? Normally you're covered third party on any car that is insured and you have permission to drive through your own insurance. Cover abroad tends to be for 90 days a year. Obviously you'd need to check. There are Spanish companies similar to Veygo and Cuvva that you can insure yourself for hours or days, like Terranea.es and Seguropordias.com if your own policy doesn't cover you.

@ZeusandClio thank you for your reply. From what I've seen online I am covered third party abroad but partner wants me fully comp as I'm not confident ...
Basically I've never driven abroad, never driven an automatic, FIL's car is a bit technical and the area they are in is quite busy/roads are complicated. I'm not feeling comfortable with the driving but have offered to do as much as I can.
