Anyone travelled around southern Finland by public transport?

Hello

DP and I (no children) are planning a last minute trip to Finland and would like to spend 3 nights in Helsinki and then travel by train somewhere quieter maybe by a lake for 1 night, somewhere with lovely hikes - I’m struggling to find anywhere which is easy by train (2 hours ish) , has anyone been and can recommend?

or is it better to stay in Helsinki for 4 nights and do day trips. I’d just love somewhere peaceful and beautiful!

Thanks!

Tampere? Very beautiful and easy by train from Helsinki. Two viewing towers, one in woodland with nice walks around it. Plenty of lakes and hikes.

I think you should spend 3 nights in Helsinki and then take train to Tampere for 1 night. They are very different cities to each other and so lovely.

You’ve got great options within 1–2 hours! Lahti or Hämeenlinna are both easy by train, peaceful, with nice lakes and nature walks. Tampere is a bit bigger but still very scenic between lakes. All great for a quick escape from Helsinki! If you need help planning, ZepTravels offers custom Finland trips: https://zeptravels.com/
