Crushing pain in my chest. Anyone had this?

Seetheweedsagain · 04/08/2024 09:10

It started on the right on top of my breast. Has today moved all over the chest area and my back. It feels like something is broken 😞

Dr reassured its muscular but has anyone had similar? The pain feels a bit like I can't take a proper breath without it being more intense

It definitely is NOT the worst pain I have ever felt. But is feels unsettling, if that makes sense.

I am a 26 year old female so unlikely the Dr has missed a heart attack lol. But the discomfort is so uneasy

It feels like when I broke my ankle, that type of sore pain. Definitely no chest injuries

I'd go to A&E to get an ECG. Don't mess about with chest pain.

Gelasring · 04/08/2024 09:34

It sounds like it's got worse or at least changed since you saw the Dr? If so you should definitely get some more medical advice - out of hours at least or a and e.

Applestrudel71 · 04/08/2024 09:39

How exactly did your Gp rule out heart attack?
Crushing pain in chest = A&e.

Does it feel like someone is stabbing you in the chest when you breathe? If so it could be costocondritis. I used to get that all the time. It's an inflammation of the chest lining. There's nothing for it but strong pain relief and rest.
But see the GP asap.

OldTinHat · 04/08/2024 09:42

It might be pleurisy. That bloody hurts and you can't take a deep breath in.

It's viral (from memory) but, please, get it checked out ASAP.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 04/08/2024 09:46

A and E now, don't rely on the GP's word.

Seetheweedsagain · 04/08/2024 09:47

@Applestrudel71 I had an ECG at the surgery, all normal. Plus I am 26 so very low risk anyway

Plus, surely if I was having a heart attack, after 24 hours I'd be dead? Surely you don't just keep getting a painful chest and die? I know that is really blunt, but I didn't think I would be living surely if it was my heart

Get off mn and go to AE likely not a heart attack but woman's cardiac issues are very often missed .Worth getting checked out and an ecg and bloods done.Take care

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 04/08/2024 10:00

ECG is just one of the ways they diagnose a heart attack. Seriously, get to A and E or ring 111 and tell them your symptoms and they will say A and E .

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 04/08/2024 10:01

And yes,you need a blood test to check if it's a heart attack as the pp says.

Isobel201 · 04/08/2024 10:15

Chest pain doesn't always mean a heart attack, given you've already had an ECG. Does the pain get better with movement? I get this chest pain and it gets better if I get up and walk about.

MissMoneyFairy · 04/08/2024 10:20

Chest pain isn't always your heart, it can be lots of reasons which can be investigated, an ecg is just one test,

AgreeableDragon · 04/08/2024 15:18

@Seetheweedsagain my 26 yr old DD had pain in her chest like this. The Drs kept sending her home until her BF threw a fit in A&E so they finally did an X ray. She had a pulmonary embolism that could have killed her.
Drs get things wrong, sometimes you need to keep push8 g for an answer.

ineedtogwtoutbeforeitatoohot · 04/08/2024 15:26

Mine was acid reflux. Very painful.

WhatMe123 · 04/08/2024 15:32

Op I've worked in cardiology. Any jaw pain? Sickness or dizziness?
And no many people have heart attacks and are still alive, it's simply a blockage in the heart so even if your alive now you could still have had a heart attack as it can simply be a small blockage if you get me. Many are simply small attacks. Personally I'm shocked you presented with crushing chest pain as a woman (that's often how a heart attack presents in women) and your gp didn't ask for bloods. I suspect if you were to phone njs 111 and describe your symptoms they would probably advise a&e for an ecg and bloods

DatingDinosaur · 04/08/2024 17:38

"surely if I was having a heart attack, after 24 hours I'd be dead? Surely you don't just keep getting a painful chest and die? "

You can have heart attacks and not even know. You might think you've got a bit of trapped wind or pulled a muscle. Heart attack doesn't always end in death.

Heart attacks don't care what age you are either.

Covidwoes · 04/08/2024 18:58

@Seetheweedsagain did they do a D-Dimer blood test to check for blood clots? If not, I'd strongly suggest going to OOH or A&E and request this.

FinallyMovingHouse · 04/08/2024 19:00

Look at symptoms for 'pulled intercostal muscle'. Depending on where it is, it can feel much like this.

Mybusyday · 04/08/2024 19:01

Do you have asthma OP? Sometimes I get a sharp pain in my chest a few hours before an asthma flare up. Hope you are ok

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 04/08/2024 19:05

Is it in your shoulder blade too? Possibly gallstones. I get pain right between my breasts at bra band level that's crushing and very very painful when I have a gallstone attack.

However, crushing chest pain = a&e, every time.

MIL had a heart attack, on a Friday night. Chest pain, thought she'd pulled something. She waited till the GP opened on Monday morning before she called anyone, GP sent an ambulance.

deeahgwitch · 17/08/2024 07:39

Did d you get sorted @Seetheweedsagain ?

Leanmeansmitingmachine · 17/08/2024 10:12

I’d want a more comprehensive cardiac assessment in an acute setting (hospital), not just be dismissed by a GP because of my age. Speaking as someone with experience of sudden cardiac arrests aged thirty-something.

It may not be a MI, but it may be cardiac. Or it may not.
