Marble countertops. Beautiful of nightmare?

This one is for anyone with marble countertops.

I love marble and I’ve finally taken the plunge to have them installed in my kitchen this week.

I’m aware marble can chip/stain/etch but I’ve just gone down a wormhole and I’m very nervous they are going to look terrible in not much time at all. I’m getting honed marble.

Can anyone share the reality of living with marble countertops?! Am I being a fool? Should I have chosen porcelain? How do I care for the marble?

Thanks in advance.

Edit: Subject should have read “Beautiful OR nightmare”

Oh I adore ours! We’ve had a couple of stains but I put a few drops of washing up liquid on them, go and do something else in the kitchen and then wipe it off - so I’m talking minutes not hours - and the stain has gone. Even 24 hour + stains.

ours hasn’t chipped yet and it’s been two years and I am pretty clumsy.

Neighbours over the road have basically the same kitchen as ours, but there's is all marble counter tops (he's in the trade so got it dirt cheap). It's been there 15 years now and looks fabulous. I've redone our non-marble tops twice in that time.

Funnily enough, I’ve just watched an Abbey Clancy Celebrity Homes episode (ITVx) where she visits Sheree Murphy’s house and they talk about what a nightmare marble worktops are. AC said she cried when she got her first stain on her worktop.

I’m telling myself this will be “character”!
