Hair loss

I've been losing strands of hair that amount to the size of a 20p when balled up every time I brush my hair. This has been happening for a few weeks now. My hair is shoulder length.

It's really freaking me out as it genuinely feels like it's thinning around my parting and my ponytail feels slightly less thick than before.

I'm early 40s , and I am starting to go a little grey in areas. I don't over style my hair and haven't started to use any new products lately. Just shampoo and condition every 3 days.

Does anyone have any experience of this and does my hair loss sound excessive at all?

Thank you.

Get your thyroid checked out. Hair loss can be a symptom of an underactive thyroid. It can also be related to the menopause too.

Thank you. I think am in in perimenopause so it could be this.

I've had my initial appointment. Thankfully it was with a knowledgeable gp. She has ordered blood tests for thyroid function and iron. She wants a follow up appointment a week after that. She seems to think it could be stress related hair loss , which makes sense considering the way the last couple of months have been.

I lost a lot of hair during perimenopause, blood tests came back clear, I spent a small fortune on various pills and potions that claimed to help but the only thing that stopped it was hrt.

@Wildywondrous thanks for your response. I'm going to ask about this in my follow up appointment. The gp suspects my blood results will be normal too based on what I've told her.

@Wildywondrous has your hair loss improved? Mine is very thin. I wondered if you have seen an improvement and what worked?
