I think he was lucky: he was young enough not to even need the painkillers he'd been prescribed. Smilem

By all accounts, he had a great holiday! Grin

BestIsWest · 24/08/2024 23:01

I had shingles at 14 too! After a bout of Glandular fever.

BustingBaoBun · 25/08/2024 07:25

My DD had shingles at about 15 or 16 and she still has a scar from where the spots came up on her hip. She felt a bit rough but she was okay, it was just unfortunate we had a Spanish exchange student here at the time who was quite demanding!
The UK are now encouraging you to have a shingles jab at a certain age, I think I'm having mine later in the year, getting shingles when you're older is pretty horrible I understand

Reading this, it is absolutely appalling how corrupt GOP have become. Basically currying favour with Trump by funnelling money to him. He is giving politicians endorsements because they spend a huge amount of money at his properties

We need to remember that Mordred slew Arthur.

BruceAndNosh · 25/08/2024 15:29

RFK isn't Mordred, he's just a very naughty boy.
He also is pro choice which won't go down well with some

SerendipityJane · 25/08/2024 16:21

Just hearing over 65s are turning towards Democrats ...

Well, sorta kinda he is. Although apparently he doesn't quite understand just when a fetus becomes 'viable'.

And let's face it, how many politicians do a 180 on their principles when they see the possibility of elected office or a cabinet position in their grasp. (Lookin' at you, too, Mr NeverTrumper Vance).

https://www.thirdway.org/memo/rfk-jr-and-stein-are-helping-the-red-team-instead-of-protecting-abortion-ivf-reproductive-rights

From the article, written June 2024, when he was still a 3rd party candidate:

"Responding to a question asking, “So you would cap [abortion] at 15 weeks?” RFK Jr. said, “Yes, yes, yes, for three months…Once the child is viable outside the womb, I think the state has an interest in protecting that child that supersedes...I think the states have a right to protect the child once it becomes viable.”"

Also from the article:

"chosen a running mate who is best known for her war on IVF. "

BruceAndNosh · 25/08/2024 16:36

That's interesting @AcrossthePond55 . I had a brief look at Kennedy's website which said he was prochoice (with caveats) but didn't realise he consider viability at 15 weeks. (I think most medics consider 20 weeks the cut off)

AcrossthePond55 · 25/08/2024 18:22

@BruceAndNosh

When I was pregnant with DC2 I was having pre-term contractions at 23 weeks. I was told that if I could make it to 25 weeks the baby would have a 'good chance of making it'. Of course that was 30+ years ago and I'm sure that medical science has improved by leaps and bounds. I held on until 37 weeks and he was born hale & hearty.

TBH, I think that if Kennedy continues on with his ridiculous 'beliefs'
he could (hopefully) be a bit of a liability to Trump with more moderate voters and with women. Those who have a healthy respect for the Kennedy legacy of public service and liberal values won't touch him with a bargepole.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 25/08/2024 18:48

I have a serious problem with feeling any respect for John F Kennedy; possibly being alive while he was in power doesn't help, what with noticing that he started that little trouble in Vietnam and all (later, I was out there substituting JFK for LBJ when the crowd chanted "Hey Hey LBJ how may kids have you killed today?" at the demos, even though I knew he was dead), and reading Gore Vidal may also have soured me on the man somewhat. He was just a politician, one who almost certainly had mafia links which helped him win the presidency and probably led to his death when the mob thought he was betraying them with his policies on organised crime.

Bobby I had some time for, but then he he hadn't had as much opportunity to behave badly as his brother had before he too was killed.

Edited

While JFK has blood on his hands for Vietnam, somehow his short term seems to have inspired more hope than hate. It can't all have been a great scriptwriter.

I grew up entranced by the space programme and what it offered mankind. And JFK was instrumental that that. It's thanks to his eloquence that - every day - I want to do something for my country. sadly he was a tough act to follow. How would a Trump have solved the Cuban crisis ?

DISCLAIMER - I was born after JFKs assassination but before RFKs. Isn't it amazing to think that Sirhan Sirhan is still alive and fuck has happened to help Gaza ?

Scaredy Cat?
He'll debate. He has no choice. He's just setting up 'the mediators were rigged!'

Former president Donald Trump suggested Sunday evening that he might skip a Sept. 10 ABC News debate with Vice President Kamala Harris (D), after agreeing to participate as the GOP presidential nominee earlier this month.

“I watched ABC FAKE NEWS this morning, both lightweight reporter Jonathan Carl’s (K?) ridiculous and biased interview of Tom Cotton (who was fantastic!), and their so-called Panel of Trump Haters, and I ask, why would I do the Debate against Kamala Harris on that network?” Trump asked in a social media post Sunday evening.

There is a history of blocks of lard or ice being substituted for absent candidates. Certainly in the UK.

When Boris Johns was in full Trump mode and hiding in fridges, he sent his Dad to do one debate. There's no reason why that shouldn't happen here. Although there is a danger that putting the dead long decomposed corpse of Fred Trump up against Kamala could trigger an RNC upswing. After all it couldn't make less sense that Donoldald

BruceAndNosh · 26/08/2024 10:56

If Trump is so sure of his superiority over Harris surely he should be confident that he can outdebate her on any platform

BruceAndNosh · 26/08/2024 10:58

Apparently Trump posted 48 times on Truth Social during Harris's 37 minute speech.
But no, he's not at all bothered by her....

YankTank · 26/08/2024 11:17

Since he’s more beautiful than Kamala and so confident in this fact, he should be more than happy to stand side-by-side with her. And it’ll be a slam dunk for him, since, according to him, she can barely say her own name. I for one, am looking forward to him dazzling me with his superior intellect and the physical beauty. Can’t wait!

I mean, he is the bestest most beautifulest most orangest most intelligentest most articulatest most highest IQest man in the entire universe. It's definitely that ABC is biased against him. What could he possibly have to be afraid of?

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 26/08/2024 14:41

Hey, you missed out Powerfulnnz. I know he was writing about the Border Force at the time, but I'm sure he'd say he was that himself as well.
