One long finger nail

Does this always mean drug use (specifically cocaine)?
I recently went on a date with a guy who had short nails, apart from a much longer pinky finger nail. I’ve done a quick google search and it seems like the main reasons are drug use, related to certain religions and to pick ear wax from the ear.
This guy is mid thirties, works in finance, and is not religious.
The ear wax thing made me heave. But drugs are a deal breaker for me.
Are there any other reasons for the long pinky nail that anyone else has come across?

I've no idea but often wondered the same. I've noticed it in Middle Eastern men who wear those silver and turquoise rings too.

Yup only ppl I've met with one long fingernail used it for coke supposedly easier than finding a Yale style key (flat kind)

I’d say coke if it’s a pinky. Only other time I’ve seen it is when someone is a guitar player but it’s not the pinky

I have a long nail on my little finger and the one next to it on my right hand. I play a stringed instrument and they are the only ones I don't need to have short. Promise I'm not doing coke! Slopes off to cut random two finger nails... 🤣

DH (musician, guitar player) says a lot of people who plays acoustic / Spanish guitar do it. In his highly technical words, anyone that plays anything that's 'picky' rather than 'strummy'.

I don’t cut my fingernails. I just file them smooth again if they snag or break which is quite frequently so they are not long. My little ones sometimes however do grow ridiculously long. I’ve always put it down to those fingers not being as active and involved in the everyday normal non-drug-taking tasks my other fingers get up to… 🤔

Surely if the guy played a stringed instrument he would have mentioned his hobby on your date? Unlike using his pinkie for ear cleaning or coke, which I imagine he might keep schtum about 🤔

If he works in finance, my money would be on the drugs rather than guitar.

in my defence i have eczema and they advise against sticking cotton buds in your ears to scratch, so i use my pinky finger nails (yes i wash after, i'm not entirely gross)

To second PPs, finance + pinky nail is almost defo coke. You can probably find out pretty quickly if he plays any musical instruments though!

Nothing to do with drug use . Asian cultures are EXTREMELY status driven . Manual work means you are planting rice or farming/ carpentry etc which cannot be done with long fingernails.

No. My friend is a book conservator and he has a long nail for when he’s working with gold leaf. He’s done coke in the past but definitely not now!
