Must see Cornwall days out/attractions

We're going camping next week to Cornwall, staying about 15 mins from Bodmin.

I have 3dc, 15m, 13f, 9m. Are there any must do days out or attractions nearby that you can recommend?
So far, we have looked at and provisionally decided (not booked) on the Steam Engine show and looking at the giant slip and slide. Are they worth a visit?

Also, are there recommendations for supermarkets near Bodmin etc?

Thank you!

Eden Project

Super Tramp Parks (in Bodmin) if wet. What side of Bodmin 15 mins away? There’s loads to do in Newquay for teens and older children.

Also, there’s ASDA (decent) and Morrisons (good) and Sainsburys (below average) as far as supermarkets are concerned

Hidden Valley, probably about 30 minutes from Bodmin but well worth it.

Adrenalin quarry towards Liskeard. Depends which side of Bodmin you’re staying, there’s a Tesco at wadebridge. There is also Aldi and Lidl at Bodmin. Bodmin Jail (depending on your children’s interests) can be fun, there’s a flow rider and aqua park at retallack which is near the giant slip and slide.

We would always go to the Eden Project towards the end of our trip, register for gift aid so the tickets were then valid for 12 months so we could use the tickets again the following year.

Thanks for all your suggestions! We will be going to the aqua park and the hidden valley!

We are just inbetween Eden Project and Bodmin.

Which are the best beaches? There are so many!

Not sure where it is in relation to where you are staying but Tintagel Castle is lovely.

Ionacat · 04/08/2024 18:09

There are some gorgeous beaches between Padstow and Newquay especially if you want surf for either surfing or body boarding. Constantine Bay or Mawgan Porth are long sandy beaches.

Keep them coming!

Thank you though for all the suggestions and recommendations, I'm so excited for my camping in Cornwall now!

Thank you everybody for your ideas! We have been to Cornwall and come home again, gutted to be back is an understatement. I am in love with Cornwall. We stayed near Luxulyan and we had a great time. I can recommend Hidden Valley, the aquapark at Adrenaline Quarry for days out. We visited Polperro, Looe and Seaton beaches so we stayed pretty close to our base.

Footgolf is fun! We also enjoyed a trip on ferry from Mevagissey to Fowey. The evening trip meant we saw dolphins ☺️

Seal sanctuary and axe throwing

giant slip and slide is great.
Eden project is either great value for money or a very expensive day walking depending on your point of view.
We spent the best part of a really good day at the Geevor Tin mine museum - was very quiet even in the middle of summer and the kids (surprisingly) really enjoyed exploring it (maybe because it was quiet and it felt like they had it to themselves).
Tintagel was enjoyable despite the crowds. Worked out cheapest to buy annual English Heritage family membership at least you can use it for other sites for the rest of the year.

OldTinHat · 21/08/2024 22:56

Tintagel Castle, Boscastle (get a pasty from the bakery before walking around the harbour and visiting the Witchcraft Museum.

Hidden Valley, definitely.

Eden Project is a bit spendy and if you've done it once, you've done it, iyswim. And it's rubbish there if it's raining.

Loubelle70 · 21/08/2024 23:12

The old post office in tintagel.
Boscastle, witch museum

We wanted to do a seal watching trip but we ran ohr of time! Next time, we will definitely be back! Can recommend the best campsite!
