I've found my - long lost - ring!

I had hidden it far too well. In a very unlikely cupboard, in a box, in a box, in a box. Vague recollection of hiding it somewhere but just could not find it. 3 years of mourning the ring DH gave me after DD's birth.
Fellow airheads who misplace important beautiful things and believe them lost forever, I wish you happy breakthroughs!
Tell me your lost/found stories x

Ah that's great @Pomellata
I keep hoping and praying to St Anthony that my anniversary gifted watch will turn up. But it's been missing 10 years now at least Sad

Farkinell · 03/08/2024 15:50

Thank you for the hope!

I'm a sentimental necklace missing since taking it off one morning while hungover 🙄

thequickbrowndog · 03/08/2024 15:51

Oh my gosh, I left my wedding and engagement rings on the windowsill in my previous home. A few weeks later a remembered I hadn't seen them for a while. Turned the house upside down, no where to be seen. I assumed the radiator man had taken them, as he insisted on going into every room of the house.

2 years later, we have boxes in the garage from our house move a year ago. Dd11 finds a box of her toys with a money box inside. Was going to put it in the skip but she said she could hear something inside. Opened it up... my rings!!!!!!!

EdithGrantham · 03/08/2024 15:52

I lost both my engagement and wedding rings at work, I still look about to see if they've turned up but it's been 2 years so I'm not folding out any hope.

Tarkan · 03/08/2024 15:56

When we were moving house I put the USB drive of all our wedding photos on top of a box that wasn't to be moved yet and warned DH that it was there.

He totally forgot, grabbed the box and just chucked it into the car. We looked in the old house, the new house, and all the paths around it and inside the car. No sign of the drive and we figured it was just gone forever.

A couple of years later DH was clearing out the car, not for the first time since we had moved, and lifted up one of the floor mats at the back seats and there was our USB drive on the floor of the car. Right where our teenage DC would have stood on it over and over getting in and out the car.

It somehow survived though and I got all our photos back. The drive is now sitting safely in our display cabinet beside wedding mementos and gifts.

I lost my wedding ring at work too. It was just a plain gold band but I was devastated. My husband bought me another but I still mourn that ring fifteen years later.

I lost a gorgeous turquoise and sugilite cuff bracelet-at night, in a snowstorm, on a suburban hill, trying to get the car unstuck and safely home. Went back to look in the light of day but no sign of it.

3 years later it dropped out of the spare tire rack on the back of the car where it had nestled into the tire cover. I think it must have been kicked up there by the spinning wheels during the blizzard.

I noticed the diamond was missing from my engagement ring one day, no idea now long missing or where it fell. I had already started the insurance process when I removed laundry from the dryer and something caught my eye. There is was, a tiny diamond sparkling away. I couldn't believe I found it. I got it repaired and went out that night with a friend and when leaving the pub I saw it was missing again. I was gutted and went back to look around a brown wooden pub floor but there it was again, I saw it immediately as I approached the area, it seemed to sparkle at me.

I'm not usually superstitious but I was afraid to do anything risky for a while as I had an awful feeling that I had been exceptionally lucky and my luck was going to run out.

DuckbilledSplatterPuff · 03/08/2024 16:24

Same thing happened to me! I lost my ring when we were moving house. It turned up about 3 years later. It had got stuck behind a wooden strut in a piece of furniture, which we were getting rid of.. and whilst the furniture was being moved about it was dislodged, and so when I opened the door and did one last check - there it was, in its little box, sitting on the shelf looking at me.
It's a great feeling to have it suddenly back. Only downside is that when I tried it on and looked at my hands, they looked a bit more wrinkly than I remembered from the last time I remembered wearing it - all that children/washing going on I guess

My mum lost her wedding ring while weeding my aunts garden. When it didn’t show up after much searching my dad got her a new one. About 12 years later my uncle dug the ring up. Miracles do happen.

I am feeling a little emotional reading all this, actually.

I'm very happy for you, it's lovely when something like this happens.

The neighbour flung his hands up when speaking to his dp, his signet ring she’d gifted him flew off. He searched for so long but no sign. Several years later, his neighbour mentioned finding a ring on their flat roof while retrieving one of the kids’ balls and it had been sitting on their windowsill for weeks. It was his!

Strawberriesandpimms · 03/08/2024 16:48

Late DM lost the ruby out of her engagement ring when I was a child, and eventually got a replacement on the insurance. Some years later I was clearing out a cupboard in my childhood bedroom and found the stone in the fluff at the back. I'm now having the original stone made into a new ring.
DGran had a pair of earrings that were part of her 60th birthday gift and she gifted them to me before she died at 80yo. I used to wear them all the time but lost one earring during covid after taking my facemask on and off all day. Totally gutted. I always hope it'll turn up one day like the stone from DMs stone ring 🤞🥰

Years ago DH was doing the washing up and left his watch (my wedding present to him, very nice Tag) on the side. DD then aged about 3 picked it up and ran off with it. We’ve never seen it since. Turned the house upside down, asked her repeatedly what she did with it but no sign. We’ve moved house since and I still check pockets and things to see if it will turn up. DD is 19 now and we still ask her where it is. Any psychics on here feel free to get in touch!

Bluescissorsbluepen · 03/08/2024 17:13

When I was a toddler my mum took her engagement ring off when changing my nappy. Went to put it on and it was gone. Saw me swallow and assumed the worst. Off to a and e and a really arsey dr told her the xray would be more dangerous than waiting for the right to pass (and put her off going to a and e for about 30 years). Anyway she checked nappies for weeks but no sign. Checked everywhere else in the room. She found it once we’d moved house twice in the hinge of the box to that had held nappies etc but was by this time living in thr garden holding string and seeds etc.

I lost half of my granny's gold locket after a doctor's appointment where my kids had been fiddling with it. It had a very satisfying snap as it pushed in and out of the other half and was a great way to occupy 2 bored toddlers.

I didn't notice until that evening but felt sure it must have fallen out in the waiting room where we were fiddling with it.

17 YEARS LATER just a couple of weeks ago, I was watering the plants and DDog was playing in the flower bed so I went to chase her. As I turned around my eye saw something glinting in the soil in a section of the garden that used to be full of bushy shrubs and could not be walked on. I knew instantly it was the locket half.

It is in absolutely perfect condition and I'm still in shock. My best guess is that it fell off somewhere else in the garden and magpies hoarded it? It makes no sense.

Wow, some incredible recoveries! Almost like some things have a life or their own, or that the emotional charge they carry somehow bends rationality - I don't know how to express this.

Thank you @LyingWitchInTheWardrobe it's a really nice feeling.

@thequickbrowndog no recollection of storing them away?

Maybe I’ll find my antique sapphire and diamond engagement ring one day. I’ve spent 3 and half years grieving it and scouring places it might surface.

Pomellata · 03/08/2024 18:03

I really hope you do @80smonster 💔

Not quite the same but very valuable to me... I was on holiday and lost my contact lens in a field at an event with hundreds of people. We all went for a drink in the local and had the bright idea of going back to look after all the people had gone home. We worked out the vague area then all lay down (after the pub remember...) and looked across the grass at ground level. We found it!

AntsMarching · 03/08/2024 18:43

I had a pair of designer sunglasses that I'd bought in Paris in 2007. In 2010, I went to the US and took my sunglasses and my dd1's red book (she was my first child, I thought it actually mattered 😂). When I got back home, I couldn't find the glasses or the book. In 2022, my dd2 and her friend were playing dress up and wanted handbags to play with. I pulled an old handbag out of the wardrobe and emptied it before giving it to them. Inside were my glasses and dd1's red book. Gone for 12 years and I had torn the house apart looking for both.

No, one of the kids thought they'd keep them
'Safe' in their money box!

Pomellata · 03/08/2024 18:52

And I do hope your watch turns up @deeahgwitch

@AntsMarching isn't that weird? You must have at least thought that you had looked in that handbag?
