I saw something at an event recently about a local women's mason's group and wondered in any MNers are, or know anyone who is, as Mason? I'm interested in joining but would like to know a bit more... can anyone help?

Thank you

Well the thing about Masons is that No one will admit to being a Mason. So you're not likely to get many responses.

they don't admit women I thought, unless they are the sort of women who have penises

There was a guy at my gym that had pictures of him in robes, etc. I think it was when he joined. My solicitor was one too but he was always trying to join members-only clubs as he liked wheeling and dealing.

The men do admit it, I know four of them - two locally, one I used to work with, and one who is on the committee of a hobby group I go to. I also have my suspicions about at least two others. 😁

The Masons are a client of mine and they won't work with any of the women in my team, just the one male.

I'd like to boot them to be honest but it's not my call.

Dicks.

leeverarch · 03/08/2024 21:21

I didn't know there was any such things as women's Masons though.

tryingsomethingnew · 03/08/2024 21:22

We know quite a few. All lovely! Some Masonic lodges have been going for ages and ages and mainly old(er) men. Nothing wrong with it. Yes there are women's lodges and like the men's, the main focus is charity. If you Google women's masons there's a site and you can enter your area in the search. Go for it!

I think they have womens sections but they are not fully fledged masons like the men. It's all very top secret.

Still easier to get into the Masons than it is to get into the Village Club where FIL lives. The Masons'll take anybody white Christian male, the Club is proper picky.

I'm a Catholic so all the Ronalds and Geoffreys would probably strip me naked and sacrifice me on an altar in a kind of Rosemary's Baby/Eyes Wide Shut mashup.

KingscoteStaff · 03/08/2024 21:30

Maisonettes?

CuriousRunner · 03/08/2024 21:33

@ByCupidStunt "Bunch of boring middle aged middle class white males with inflated egos. They ain't all that." Abso-bloody-lutley!

Redglitter · 03/08/2024 21:38

A friend of mine is a Mason. Apart from the rituals they have its basically just a form of socialising. After their meetings they have dinner & drinks til the bar closes. They have regular events, things like St Andrews & Burns dinners (open to partners) and regular dinners/dances and raise a lot for charity. Last year the Glasgow Masons donated £25k to one charity.

It's not as sinister as people imagine. It may have been a way for progressing in jobs but it's not the case now. My friend has held quite senior roles in the Masons over the years & retired from the Police as a PC & says never in his 30 year career did anyone use their Masonic links to avoid speeding etc

allthemiddlechildrenoftheworld · 03/08/2024 21:39

@Grockle the most common womens lodge is the order of the eastern star. google for it in your area.

My friend is Catholic & has been a Mason 30 years

Grockle · 03/08/2024 21:51

Thank you. I know some male Masons - they do mention it - some are more open than others - it's not all top secret. I've just never met a female one- I know there are two local lodges where women meet. I have done my research, I just wondered if anyone has any experience of female masons.

Disappointed. I hoped this thread was about stone masons.

Needanswers12 · 03/08/2024 22:03

What the fuck is a Mason?

HowNice23 · 03/08/2024 22:03

My partner is a Mason. I'd say it's like boy scouts for grown ups. Pretty harmless. Nice from what I've seen for older chaps who don't have as much family around. I've helped my partner with all the rubric (they aren't that precious about who knows it). He's not part of an international conglomerate of Illuminati as far as I can tell.

LadyGaGasPokerFace · 03/08/2024 22:08

It’s an odious establishment and I’m not sure why you’d like to join? It’s very much a male orientated group of middle aged know it alls that back each other up if they’re in trouble. Lots of tax dodging going on covered up by how much money they raise for charity to make than look good.
