I just read this story and it sounds absolutely awful. So many questions but how lucky she was heard.

Lalita Kayi being assisted by police officers in the forests of Maharashtra state.

Lalita Kayi came to India 10 years ago to study yoga and meditation. How did she end up in a forest?

Wow!
From the available information it looks like the husband was trying to engineer being tragically widowed. He is probably in hiding and would have been intending to lodge a missing person's report once enough time had elapsed. It was probably a mistake for the local police to release this information at all - now that it's public knowledge the husband will know that he's rumbled and has time to change his plans.

A lot more information was given in the Indian newspapers

ViviTelly · 03/08/2024 10:54

like what @marcopront

marcopront · 03/08/2024 10:57

Sorry I don't know

Just that the Indian newspapers didn't respect her privacy

Doesn’t sound like her husband tied her up, would you leave someone with phone, tablet and money if you were leaving them to die? Seems like a lot more details need to be investigated.

It definitely is very mysterious. If it's not her husband, surely it's very strange he can't be found and hasn't come forward?

My suspicion, having lived in the area and knowing the sorts of foreigners who come to live there long term, is that mental health issues are at the crux of this. I hope she is able to get the care and support she needs now.

I agree with PP. I have worked in this area. It is a normal area full of normal people living normal lives. Yes it is portrayed in the West as an almost mystical land where people have some sort of higher consciousness, etc There are lots of businesses cashing in on the "come and find yourself with ancient mysticism" retreats, etc. And so it does attract a lot of westerners with serious mental health issues. I don't know if that goes any way to explaining her presence

This seems so mad, poor lady must be really unwell

Willmafrockfit · 15/08/2024 04:54
