What did you buy your dd for graduation?

Nothing seems to express just how proud off dd I am ( I have told her).

When she was a teen, she struggled massively with her mental health, and at times I wondered if she'd still be alive in her 20s, and definitely didn't see this in her future.

She has fought so so hard to earn this. She deserves the world, but unfortunately my budget is only £200.

Ideas so far have been jewellery or tickets to a show but neither seem right.

Any other ideas ?

What about a locket from astley Clarke with a photo of the two of you in it? They make some lovely ones and you could have it engraved.

Pintu · 02/08/2024 22:06

Or a nice meal out and get all dressed up together?

IdaGlossop · 02/08/2024 22:06

A real leather handbag that would last for years? Kate Spade and Penelope Chilvers have lovely bags in your price range.

NotARealWookiie · 02/08/2024 22:07

What is she into? Music or shopping or sport or travel or?

I received a ring engraved with the name of the uni and my graduation date inside from the official uni shop. I hadn't really worn rings before but wear this one daily a decade later and love it. I absolutely loved the uni I was at and had amazing memories of it which does make a difference to how well received that might be though

MinusMotivation · 02/08/2024 22:08

Ohh I love the locket idea, thank you.

Unfortunately her other half had the bag idea otherwise that would have definitely been a contender.

I have no idea what I'll be buying DS or DD for graduation

I didn't realise I had to

DD probably a graduation charm for her bracelet

I might buy one now actually in case they don't have nice ones in a few years time

She loves reading,in fact I've just thought, maybe a kindle paperwhite !

We all went out for a meal and I got her a card and a little (very cheap- £6) crochet graduation pickle with a graduation hat on! She loves pickles. Don’t feel you have to get something expensive. It isn’t a “thing”.

A nice meal with her family and a special treat at a spa for the two of you? And a graduation dress.

MinusMotivation · 02/08/2024 22:12

Prepare for harvest that sounds lovely. Dd wasn't that impressed with her uni though unfortunately.

We took her out for lunch and bought her a (high end high street) handbag to feel smart for starting work.

chichiwaaa · 02/08/2024 22:12

What about a voucher for a spa day / massage / relaxation type thing. A bit of self care after working so hard.

NatureofSociety · 02/08/2024 22:14

A super fancy meal on graduation day, and a cute uni department hoodie.

MinusMotivation · 02/08/2024 22:14

I think I probably am overthinking it tbh. It's a bad habit.

She's not actually attending her graduation, but we are having a small family get together and I've hired her cap and gown for photos, which is a surprise.

What about flight credits? Or air bnb credits if such a thing exists? What is she into - any particular hobbies or interests? Anything helpful for her career or related to the degree? E.g. physiotherapist or medicine so litmann stethoscope? Luxury paintbrushes if fine art. A first edition of favourite classical author if English.

Or nice purse to match a new bag, you could get lovely ones for £200. Or watch if she uses them.
Also heard about bracelets which stay on indefinitely (without a clasp).

jesper1 · 02/08/2024 22:14

I got my DD one of these from Etsy

I also paid for us to go to therme spa in Bucharest for a mini break, much cheaper than you would think

WorriedRelative · 02/08/2024 22:15

A lovely elegant pen, possibly personalised.

SunOnTheRiver · 02/08/2024 22:15

Is this a new thing? I got a first but got bugger all from my parents.

MinusMotivation · 02/08/2024 22:16

All of these are great ideas 😄 knew I should have asked on here sooner

Paying the uni fees frankly.

Solo mum.

MinusMotivation · 02/08/2024 22:17

Sunontheriver- tbh I have no idea. I didn't go to uni and don't have many friends who did either.

Why not jewelry? A watch? A nice scarf? Something related to her studies or career path? I would go for something that she can use for many years to come so she can treasure it and remember how proud you are of her, it doesn't have to be for the value of your whole budget then you can also take her out for a meal. Congratulations to your daughter!
