what sort of wedding band would fit with this engagement ring?

Would like some suggestions or input from those more savvy than me about jewellery as I am struggling to find a wedding band that can fit alongside my wedding ring. It is a low setting so I can't really get anything that will sit underneath it, as it were, unless very thin indeed. If I go for a thicker band then it sits so far below my engagement ring and leaves a large gap.

Is a spacer ring an option? Wear it on a different hand? Any other ideas?

I would prefer to avoid a wedding band that has an atypical shape or one that is designed to fit around the ring as I would like something more traditional.

With a ring like that, which is beautiful, I think you need a shaped band. The alternative would be to wear the engagement ring on your other hand and in time an eternity ring with your wedding band

Thank you! Yes I think that might be a good idea - wearing wedding band on my other hand. Will look into this. My only regret will be that it might mean neither look like a wedding or engagement ring if separated however.

Me personally, I would get a wedding ring you love and wear the engagement ring on another hand.

I think any wedding ring you get will come second to the engagement ring because it’s such a lovely ring that it really stands alone. While I’ve always worn both, lots of people eventually only wear a wedding ring and there may be times when you don’t want to wear the engagement ring. I think the wonky looking ones that go around a big ring look funny.

It’s a beautiful ring and I’d choose an equally beautiful wedding ring and just wear them on different fingers.

How can a wedding ring not look like a wedding ring? They are circular bands.

Jellytotsandwinegums · 02/08/2024 14:56

Rings on different fingers or hands is the only way to go, without having an oddly shaped wedding ring.
A traditional wedding ring will definately still look like a wedding ring without an engagement ring beside it, and does it really matter if other people don't realise your beautiful ring is an engagement ring, once you're married?

ThelastRolo20 · 02/08/2024 14:56

Could you get your engagement ring adjusted so it sits higher and a band underneath? That's how mine sit and I love how it looks personally ❤️

Totally agree on the differently shaped wedding rings looking a bit odd, particularly when worn alone. This is what I would like to avoid, and just have something very standard/classic in shape and style.

Thank you for the kind compliments.

I would like to do that but was advised against it by the jeweller the ring was purchased from as its circa 100 years old and so its a bit risky. That in combination with trying to honour the history of the ring (I realise that may sound a bit wanky to some people)! Also as the centre stone is an emerald I think it'll be a bit more protected in its original setting as not as tough and hard-wearing as diamonds etc.

Thank you for your suggestion however!

Yes, maybe. If it is not a plain band however, and more eternity style. That is what I had in mind.

You're right, I suppose it doesn't matter whether or not it is presumed to be an engagement ring. I think this is the route I will have to go down.

I have an unusual shaped engagement ring. In the end, we went to speak to a jeweller who made my wedding ring from scratch for me.

He had some fantastic ideas about different options, but in the end, he borrowed my engagement ring, made a cast, and matched the shape of my wedding ring perfectly.

When I wear the wedding ring alone, I just spin it around so the shaped bit faces my palm. I don't wear it like that often, but my engagement ring is probably a more practical size than yours!

Sanch1 · 02/08/2024 15:03

Mine is like that and I just have a notch cut out of the band which the flower sits in. You can't tell when they are on, just looks like a plain band. I'd post a pic but it would be quite outing!

Sanch1 · 02/08/2024 15:05

Also like another poster, the one time I've had to wear band only I just turned it so the notch was facing my palm.

Oh how interesting! This is not something I have come across or therefore considered. I will have a look online now and see if this could work. Thanks ever so much

Good to know this is an option. I will look into it. Thank you @Butterflyfern

What about a curved ring like this? You could have it set in diamonds or emeralds, whichever you think would look nicest against your engagement ring (it could sit above or below):

I have a soft v-shaped ring because my engagement ring is an unusual shape.

This is a beautiful ring but I would prefer to avoid one that is shaped like this as it's not really my style. Thank you for the suggestion though!

Oh my goodness OP, I have just posted a similar thread and found yours searching 'wedding band' only to see it's from today too!

My engagement ring is more standard but I'm still struggling to find a wedding band I really love to go with it, and I'm just not sure a plain band is for me.

Hope you find something beautiful 💎

I can highly recommend a company called smooch who if you're in their area will come to you with hundreds of rings that you can try on to see which suits best.

Going to go with wearing on the other hand I think. Thanks for the replies everyone!
