Help! Tomato stain on white top

lavenderboux · 02/08/2024 10:10

Typical me - managed to drop a splodge of tomato purée on my new white top (that'll teach me for thinking I can be trusted to wear white!!)
Having a nightmare trying to get the stain out.
I've tried every Vanish product that we own and it's been through the wash x3 since last night. The stain is fading but it is still there. Right in the middle of the top too 😫

I'm hoping somebody out there has a hack which they'd be willing to share. Or do I just need to admit defeat?

Thank you 🙏🏻

Try leaving it out in the sunshine (assuming you have any today!) that sometimes helps to bleach things.

macaronip1e · 02/08/2024 10:14

Have you tried putting it out in the sunlight? The uv helps break down the stain

Lindy2 · 02/08/2024 10:15

As others have said put it outside in the sun. The marks will just disappear like magic.

Wahine24 · 02/08/2024 10:19

Elbow grease spray and sunshine fixes most stains ( cool wash and heat can set then stain)

Kittybelle123 · 02/08/2024 10:19

Absolutely agree with put it in the sunshine - although as you have already attempted to wash it it may not have the same result.

If it happens again get the stained item out into the sunshine before applying any water / stain remover. I am always amazed at you can almost see the stain disappear with the naked eye 😊 just wish it worked on more than just tomato stains (believe me, I've tried 😂).

Napisan, or Ace for whites stuff (unless there are other colours on the top).

Also sunlight - it does work wonders!

bluecomputerscreen · 02/08/2024 10:20

try leaving it out in the sun.

confusedlots · 02/08/2024 10:21

Cover it with fairy liquid and rub it in well. Leave for 10 minutes and then pop in the washing machine. Has always worked well for me for numerous stains.

Blankname22 · 02/08/2024 10:22

I had a tomato bolonaise stain on white shorts and put through wash but still there. Left on my outside garden table, face up and it was completely gone by night time.

lavenderboux · 02/08/2024 10:30

Thank you all for the really helpful replies! Looks like the sun will be my best friend today - fortunately (for once!) we have plenty of it here.
I'll hang the top outside in direct uv and let it do it's thing ☀️

My son did exactly the same last week! Vanish faded it to orange, I got it out with Dr Beckman carpet cleaner rubbed on the stain, then washed again on 30 degrees - stain completely gone.

toastofthetown · 02/08/2024 10:52

I bit into a cherry tomato and it burst onto my new white dress! The sun was my friend that time too (after washing didn't;t help)

mommyfive · 02/08/2024 10:53

100% use serialising tablets Milton In the washer if it's a white top works every time x

minipie · 02/08/2024 10:54

If the sun doesn’t work - a tiny drop of neat bleach, assuming it’s a “true” white. Rub in, leave 5-10 min, then wash out

CarpeVitam · 02/08/2024 12:21

Another vote for Napisan

VanWeezer · 02/08/2024 12:24

Even if the sun doesn't make the stain completely go today, hang it up overnight and the next day.

It just magically disappears

Just wanted to pop back on and say the biggest THANK YOU - the sun worked a treat! The top is good as new!!! Phew. Thanks so much everyone x
