Can you make a standard new build a truly stylish home?

Whenever you see beautiful houses in magazine or social media, they are either old, quirky or some sort of conversion. I do not have a great imagination and feel that while immaculately painted, my house is a bit bland. It’s a 4 bed detached Taylor Wimpy in the Midlands.

If you have managed to make something special from a similar build, what did you do? Are there any interior design accounts I should follow for inspiration for “real life” houses? Thank you.

Look at Modern House on Instagram - lots of inspiration there

I think the problem is that truly stylish interiors come from people who don't give a shit what other people think, they're not found on Instagram.

A few ideas here on the Modern House website. Yes they aren’t typically standard new builds but some good inspiration.
From my perspective avoiding interior cliches helps make it more stylish, and choosing a cohesive theme throughout, pared back scandi for me always looks classy. And a nicely planted front and back garden.
Pinterest will also have some inspiration.

What you see in magazines is often not that interesting IMO. Remember they choose what they feature in order to help them sell advertising space to companies.

You can make a wonderful house in a new build, of course. You have to focus on what you like and not what the magazine industry wants you to like.
