Car finance query

chubbybear1 · 01/08/2024 19:30

I purchased a car on finance yesterday, was all done online, I didn't go and see the car. Due to an offer of a car from my partners brother I phoned first thing this morning before the car had been delivered to cancel arrangement,
The dealer said this wasn't possible as finance had already been paid out and the tax was in my name.
The car was delivered this afternoon, my partner says I should have had a 14 day cooling off period, is he right? Thanks

Yes you should. Speak to the finance company directly first and then call the garage to arrange collection of the car. Don’t use it at all.

Hello @chubbybear1

Wife of a main dealer car sales manager here, I just asked him your query.

In short, yes you can reject the car and finance. You have a 14 day cooling off period for the finance.
I have also popped a link below regarding 'distance selling' which your car purchase falls under as you haven't been to the dealer or seen the car before delivery.

Here's the link:
www.themotorombudsman.org/distance-sales-faqs

And here's an exert from the site:
Yes, distance sales are covered under provision 2.12 in the Vehicle Sales Code. It states the following:
“Where a vehicle sale is concluded at a distance, the accredited business will make clear your right to cancel within 14 days.”

All the best OP
