What bra size am I?

pingpongding · 31/07/2024 19:20

I'm measuring 32 inches across my back/rib cage and 36 inches across fullest part of my bust

Does this make me a 32 B?

Try boob or bust but I’d say more likely 32D

dementedpixie · 31/07/2024 19:24

32D as there are 4 inches between the under and over bust measurements

1 inch = A, 2 inches = B, then it's C, D, DD, E, F, FF, G, GG, H, etc

32d

I've read you add 3 to the band size so I'd be 35/36 and then subtract that from your bust for cup size, so I'm 36 A Confused

I've lost weight so now needing new bras and very confused

You dont add any extra inches to the back size. What you measure under bust is your back size

HippeePrincess · 31/07/2024 19:26

The whole point of a band size is its the same no of inches as you measure under the bust. It’s a weird myth from terrible bra fitters at M&S and the like to add any inches to that size.

dementedpixie · 31/07/2024 19:27

What website is that? Sounds like the old method that gives a bra too big in the back and too small in the cup

BiliousOhGod · 31/07/2024 19:27

If you can get a non-stretchy tape around you at 32 inches, you can get an elasticated bra strap in that size. Go smaller around the band and a bigger cup size, and you'll end up with a better fit and support. And possibly a better look under clothes, too, if that matters to you.

Right, I've used this and it says 32 D, which I find hard to believe tbh

32D

Lemevoir · 31/07/2024 19:35

I agree with others to look up boob or bust.

Another rule of thumb is band size should be approximately whatever your dress size is plus 20.

Size 12 = 32 band
Size 16 = 36 band etc

I remember years ago (before I knew about the "new" method of measuring) and using the +3 or 4 inches method, M&S would havemy chest be concave.

I was in 36B I think for years. More recently I've discovered I'm more like 32-34 band size and F or G cup.

pingpongding · 31/07/2024 19:33

You probably are! I think lots of us are stuck in the old mindset of DD’s being melons and in most cases that’s a normal / average size if measured correctly. I’m an F or sometimes a G cup but was wearing a larger back and DD cup for years! I have dents in my shoulders where I was taking the weight on my shoulders and not getting support from the band. You could always try going
to a dept store to try on different brands snd feel how they fit… I find as with clothes now sizes vary so much between brands!

dementedpixie · 31/07/2024 19:42

M&S had me in a 40C but I'm actually 36GG (and a size 20/22 so the adding 20 to my dress size doesn't work for me either)

CeeJay81 · 31/07/2024 19:58

@pingpongding I'm with you, this new sizing is nowhere near right. I'm small, always been a 32b, also a 30c fits but that is hard to find. There is no way I'm a 28dd which is what this new thing measures me at.

dementedpixie · 31/07/2024 20:03

A 28DD is only 1 cup size bigger than 30C as 30C is equivalent to a 28D with regards to cup size. There's only 1 inch difference between them

CeeJay81 · 31/07/2024 20:07

A 30 band size is really tight though, I wouldn't get a 28 fastened. I measure 28inches under and 33/34 across.

Also a 36GG size 16/18! Panache envy is the only bra I wear.

dementedpixie · 31/07/2024 20:46

It's just a starting point. If you don't have much fat on your ribs a bigger back size can help and then you can choose a sister size for the cup e.g. if you measure 30DD and want a sister size you could try 32D or 28E
